Good Day Ladies and Gents, an issue with the F-type 2014 3.0V6S. Today, after reving the engine in hot condition once to rev limit, I heard a little crack and a smell of coolant coming into the cabin.
After a miłe or two, steam from coolant started coming from the engine bay.
I checked around the engine bay and it seems that the coolant heater pipe situated at the back end of the engine cracked and started leaking coolant with steam coming from it as well.
attached photos.
It seems that I was lucky that I was not going in highway speeds, only cruising around town. I lost maybe a glass or two of coolant in the system.
My question is,
is my hunch correct and the pipe needs replacement?
Do I need to remove the supercharger in order to replace the faulty pipe?
Good thing you were able to stop! Hopefully you didn't cook the engine as that happens surprisingly fast if this doesn't get caught. There are a number of examples of it happening on this forum and people have spent big money putting new engines in.
One more cracked coolant pipe to add to the list! A well known and common issue, that rear coolant pipe cracks at that seam and will definitely need to be replaced.
There has been some talk about EuroAmp out of Houston developing an aluminum replacement part but it hasn't materialized yet.
In the meantime, there are full cooling system replacement kits that include your cracked plastic pipe as well as aluminum versions of the front coolant pipes. A lot of people have installed these kits and seem happy with them. Otherwise you can just replace the single pipe that cracked but it will be with another plastic part that will eventually probably fail again. I'm waiting to do the replacement/upgrade until all pipes are available in metal.
Since you're out of warranty, I'd find a local reputable independent jaguar specialist. They will absolutely have seen this before.

Reason: spelling
Some say the supercharger needs to come off to replace that pipe but apparently it can be done without removing the SC, but you need to be a 90 lb contortionist with super thin and double jointed arms, hands and fingers to get at the six mounting bolts (three each side).
On a 2014 V6 it is odds on the SC coupler is worn to the point of rattling and the SC needs to come off to replace the coupler, and as KimboSlice points out it is odds on that one or more other coolant pipes are due to fail soon so another reason to pull the SC off. Just get the EuroAmp coolant pipes kit and replace the lot in one go.
I had a crossover pipe fail and steam everywhere. Had it fixed. Week later my electric fan went out. I am guessing the hot coolant ruined the fan motor.
Plus your right there so it will be easy to unhook the Symposer!
At least I think the V-6 has one as it looks like it in the photo?
Consider adding a SC oil change to your repair along with what OzXFR suggested above.
And again maybe replacing the 2 front plastic pipes with Aluminum?

Yep, the AJ126 also has the damned Symposer. Easier to get to and remove than that on the V8 as there is more room to manoeuvre.
Wow, Gents, thanks for the responses! Very informative. Im glad that I was only cruising around town when the pipe cracked and did not overheat the engine. The low coolant level alarm came in also pretty early.
Even before that happened, I can hear that the engine developed some rattling noise when the car starts, runs on idle and, especially, when it stops.
The car was recently importer from the US and has 138k miles. My hunch is that the sc coupler is already worn. Might be a good idea to have the coupler replaced along with compressor oil change. Any recommended oil?
Woke up this morning and turned the ignition on, Low coolant warning flashed up. Checked the level in the expansion tank and it is empty, topped it up (luckily had some Penstone in the garage) and drove to work, just checked and it has dropped again about a cm. Having read the forums I am assuming it is the dreaded coolant pipe failure.
still under warranty with the dealer so hopefully they will sort it out pretty quickly.
