"Customized" Lowering Springs - 2015 Rwd R Coupe
#21
I cut half a coil from the top. The bottom of the spring is the thicker part and would make sense to cut from there so you don't diminish the progressive rate of the spring, however there is taper to the diameter at the bottom where it meets the spring pad and I didn't want to risk it not reseating if I cut the bottom.

FYI/Caveat Emptor - we are 100% NOT endorsing or recommending cutting the springs.
The AWD Factory springs are shorter than the 2WD. For those of you who do want the lower front you can probably fit the AWD front springs.

Stuart -
I am interested to know if there was any validation done on the AP Springs to determine durability? I come from the Automotive world in Detroit, MI and I'm always fascinated by aftermarket parts for cars that never need to see PPAP. (Production Part Approval Process)
I have heard that King Springs in Australia uses X5K steel to produce springs and wondered if they supply for you. Obviously, you don't need to answer that - I am just wondering about the process used and if its similar?
Are these powder coated? or painted?
After the assumed Peel Taper/Heat/Cool/Harden/Temper
Also if you could shoot me a quote for a set for a 2015 Type-R RWD I would appreciate it. I'm in the market for a set. Also what is the turnaround time when I order?
Thank you!

If you guys are cutting the factory springs, then could I do the same with my SVR? I would love to lower it about 1/3" in the front and 1/2" in the rear, I just find that the VAP, H&R springs look too low for me (personal taste) and I'd far rather just lower the car 1/3-1/2" maximum, hence considering the KW HAS kit, but if it is safe to cut 1/2 coil from the factory springs then that seems like a plan.
I assume its best to cut from top of spring?

I cut the VAP spring, but I don't see why you couldn't cut the factory one. The spring perch rotates, so there is no concern with having to cut a full coil loop, which is required on some vehicles. Also, I recommend you cut with a simple grinder, cutting with a torch can create enough heat to alter the spring.

Hu2=Hu1 x (Hc1-0.5") / Hc1
Where Hu1 and Hc1 are the height of the uncompressed and compressed OEM spring, respectively, and Hu2 is the height to which you would want to cut the height of the uncompressed spring.

Next week I will try. The Eibach springs raise my R 2015 RWD and have not been able to give me solution. The car goes up 1 "! So I'm going to cut 1 turn and 1/4 so that it goes down more than OEM and gets close to 1/2" of the rear axle

I would suggest returning the Eibachs as they don’t fit right, and buy a properly engineered spring set from VAP or H&R. Cut springs run the risk of not sitting properly in the seats and potentially causing handling issues as they shift.

[/ QUOTE]
I live in Madrid, Spain, and Eibach suggested that I send the springs to Germany to analyze what happened. Weeks without a car, maybe months? So I did not accept and I have 4 front and 2 rear springs without mounting and without much money spent on assemblies ... It seems that the option to cut springs has not gone bad here, right?
From so much put and remove springs a suspension broke and as the car has 33,000 miles I bought 4 Bilstein B4 ...

It worked well for me on trimming the VAP springs to get fine tuning on the font height. Since they sent you a 2nd set, you have extra springs so it costs you nothing but time to try. I'd cut 3/4 of a coil and see what that it does for you. Still, can't imagine what is going on where the Eibach's raised the front of your car...

I think something was up with your VAP spring installation (early batch?, RWD vs AWD?). After the install the front was definitely had less gap than rear and your after cut looks like mine now without the cut. Unless mine are an anomaly.
Fronts VAP AP Lowering Springs - AWD
Rear VAP AP Lowering Springs - AWD
Both VAP AP Lowering Springs - AWD
