Hi all,

Just wondering which wheels you think look better on the Carpathian Grey F-Type. Having a tough time deciding between the two! Appreciate any thoughts.

 

Depends if you want the black pack as that basically determines your choice of wheel.
mixing chrome and black doesn’t look good imho.

 

Agreed, got to match the collar and cuffs. Looks much more aggressive with black pack and wheels.

 

I have the black pack and the alloy wheels in your pic. I am somewhat over the black rims phase as everyone seems to have done that and it has been beat to death. My last Porsche 911 S had them on it and I wasn't a fan although it looked nice. I just think it is over done. I am shocked that Jaguar has so many different combinations on these cars between the black pack, rims and massive amount of interior options for color combos.

 

The "machined aluminuuuum" wheels perfectly match the Jaguar Race Engineered Custom silver front licence plate frame. I could not afford that particular option! Just Joshin....

 

Great color! I would go with the alloy rims with subtle coordinated additions like the bright window surround (Pic #5) and bright front grille surround...

 

Hi all, OP here. Appreciate the responses so far. Forgot to mention that I’d definitely be going with the black pack on this car.

I actually love the alloy wheels but yet the black wheels also look really awesome which is why I’m having a hard time deciding. I suppose one of the reasons I was ambivalent about the black wheels initially is that I couldn’t tell if it qualifies as the so-called ‘murdered out’ look, which is apparently played out to some degree. Or is this only the case when it’s black on black..?

In any event, much as I believe that I will love the car no matter what wheels I choose, part of me was reluctant to go with a potentially ‘out of date’ look for a car that I will no doubt be driving for the next 5+ years. That probably sounds stupid but was just a thought I had.

The F-Type is a classic design - it'll never look "out of date". And you'll be driving it for a lot more than 5 years if you have any sense at all!

 

One thing I should also mention.. the reason I was originally leaning toward alloy was due to the contrast it provides against the dark grey.. and I just think they look elegant vs the more aggressive look of the black wheels. Both look great though in their own right.

 

I'm not a fan of the wheel design on the dark wheels shown above. I do think certain wheel designs look good with specific colors. I have done the "all dark/all black" look in the past (before it was called ‘murdered out’). I did it with a E46 M3. The wheel of choice had thinner spokes than the one shown above which allowed the rotors and calipers to show through which broke up the black. To good thing is that wheel color is likely the easiest thing to change if you don't like what you get.

 

I opted for silver wheels on my Storm Grey, although a different design than those. I think they accent the look of the dark car. They show brake dust though, so are not silver as often as they should be. It was especially bad with the stock brake pads, not so much with the Porterfields.

Those wheels are painted black with exposed alloy to accent, so may not be as plagued by brake dust as the Centrifuge design.

 

I like both looks. I run my alloy set up for my winter tires and the blacked out set up for my summers


there is a huge number of wheel options that look awesome on the F-Type in the grey hues

 

my choice is the black, i dont think these cars qualify for "played out" fashion terms, its more about the look than what everyone else is doing

 

I had my rims and calipers ceramic coated so it minimizes the issues.

 

I got gunmetal grey on mine (Vorsteiner call it "graphite") and they are coated. Doesnt collect a lot of dust and what is collected doesnt really show, I dont get water marks either. I have to say I am very happy with the result.

To the OP, I am not an authority on much at all but if I was buying a new F Type I would spec the cheapest wheels I could and then spend money on some forged aftermarket wheels with michelin rubber. It gives a massive improvement to ride and handling as the OEM wheels are tremendously heavy, and the rubber isnt much chop either.

 

At least you can change or spray wheels so it's not a permanent commitment!
Personally I prefer the silver wheels - think the car looses contrast and detail with the black wheels. On a white car the black wheels look sharp. On grey or black I think silver wheels are better.

 

Black on a dark car not a good look to me. I dont like black wheels on anything outside of a truck or jeep. Your mileage may vary...

 

Appreciate all of the feedback. I am leaning toward the silver alloys, which I guess it then becomes a matter of which calipers to get, hah : ) I was originally thinking red, but can't tell if this has the appearance of an anti-theft device or not. Many years ago before I knew anything about cars I actually did think was an anti-theft device! Then again I didn't see them all too often in the suburbs. And, perhaps I'm off base, but they also seem to slightly distract the eye from the rest of the car's overall beauty. All of that said, they do look pretty cool, but I think I am leaning black or unpainted for a more clean/elegant look. What do you guys think?

 

I like the red calipers, adds a different flash to the car. I like yellow even better.

 

I'm with 19FRG on this one - yellow looks great with grey - but if you are going silver wheels I would go black over unpainted, especially with the black pack.
