There's a phrase I never use on the forum .....

I recommend you also read the guidance on jump starting and/or charging the battery. Several members with recent and current Jaguar models have fried sensitive electronics by using the wrong technique.

I just tried a little test, and it seems you have to push the blade in past a "detente", about 1/4" further in after it first stops. Without this extra push it didn't turn at all, but with the extra push it started to turn a bit both ways, and when I turned it clockwise (towards the front of the car, on a RHD car where the key hole is under the RH / driver's door handle) the car alarm went off.
Tried it three times, same result each time. Dunno if that means I was successfully unlocking the car or not as the noise was too much to bear so I immediately unlocked it with the other fob!

With my XKR, I ran into the classic dead battery inside the trunk puzzle. On the X100, there is a hidden-in-plain-sight hole for the tibbe key to operate the trunk manually. Nobody ever uses this, and as a result the lock tightens up over the years and becomes inoperable--you can get yourself in a fix. I soaked the lock in WD-40 and had to carefully work the lock for several minutes before it loosened up to become smooth. The X100 forum wisdom is to lubricate and work that lock peridocially to prevent lock-outs.
Deja-vu, all over again.
