Yep, not locking the car shouldn't mean the hazard light stays on, but the car does take a little longer to shut down. Interestingly, it shuts down quicker if you double-lock rather than just single lock.

IIRC our North American cousins don't get double locking.

Also, I’ve never had the alarm go off when reconnecting the battery, though I’ve only done it a few times in 9 years.

Same here, and I’ve done it a kazillion times. Maybe it’s model year dependent.
