Dealership says low battery message normal?
#21
last time I had an argument with the service I didn't buy a car from them and made clear why, took me 2 years to walk back to the store.
Well, they finally could reproduce the battery failure. The battery was charged at 82% when I dropped it off, they did not disconnect the battery to clear the message, today the battery had failed. New battery this time. we'll see if that takes care of the faults and other messages.

Received the car back today. The dealerships diagnosis is that my installation of the Valentine one Savvy unit which connects to the OBD port is at fault. Supposedly this was keeping the car awake with a 16 amp draw. I have moved the power connection to the center console. I am using the 2-port lighter adapter to power the Valentine one and V1connection for Android. I have noticed the car will not hibernate unless I lock the doors. I don't remember having to lock my 2015 F Type R while in my garage to make the car hibernate. I performed a hard reset by disconnecting the positive on the battery for 5 minutes and the car will not hibernate unless the doors are locked. I was charged for some of the diagnosis time since this is not a warranty issue. Attached are notes from the Tech to the Service Manager. Last names have been removed from the letter.

As per some previous comments, my 2015 F type R has never had a low battery even if I leave it for weeks and even if I leave the doors unlocked. I bought mine as a new car order and picked it up a few days after it arrived so the battery never had a chance to discharge.
One thing I did noticed awhile ago at the dealer for an oil change, is that they leave the cars in the showroom and in the lot long enough for the batteries to drain, over and over. The master mechanic told me that the batteries can be damaged over time (yes, most of us know that) and they have had some battery issues with some of these cars and are now charging them up more frequently.
Lawrence.

I was wondering if it is important to lock the car if it is being left in the garage for several weeks to prevent battery drain. This sounds like it goes into hibernation even when unlocked so there should be no need to lock it.

It happened to me when installing CB and Radar Detector.
Opening , closing the doors. In and out of car and then the car balancing itself .
Great strain on the Battery.
2011 the battery is original and will change it before winter.
Still testing 'good' but better safe then sorry.
But if you are getting this constantly, you have something that is 'on'
Better check.

Even unlocked, the car goes into full hibernation, just less quickly than when locked. The only time there will be an issue is when the battery control module is malfunctioning which can be determined if the hazard light button remains lit for more than 10 minutes after you exit the car. The module can be reset (rebooted) by disconnecting the battery for several seconds.
