No, normaly it should be possible to use it in both directions if the pins on each side are the same

I think here the bigger question is why it has destroyed 2 ribbon cables. It looks like too much current is being drawn or it is shorting. hopefully the cable burning out is protecting the daughter boards from the original. A new screen is not cheap.once again much respect for Rick leading the way.

Hopefully Merryay can chime in and give some relief and guidance. It's discouraging they do not provide an instruction manual in English.

See my post #142. Hold the iPhone over a page and it translates any selected language.

XDave, do you have any details or a link to the thread? I wasn't able to find it. Thanks!

Once frostysauce starts testing his unit, we will know if this is just a freak occurrence or an actual design flaw.

Once you get a good ribbon cable, you should try plugging all the OEM equipment back together again to see if it still works.

The connector for the ribbon-cable on the motherboard looks from the video to have a lever that unlocks the cable for removal. Do you think there is a chance that one of the contacts on the connector is stuck in the down position or is misaligned which is causing it to shear the copper off the cable for that cable signal line?

That copper was pretty clearly burned off by excess current - not a good situation.

In general, this type of cable is called 'flex' rather than 'ribbon.'

If you look carefully you can see that entire wire trace is charred. Not just on the end.

Could the cable have been in the wrong position when it was 'locked down'? (I would think that it would be capable of handling any current in the wire run...)

It's a viable solution but for $1,200 you would think there would be an English manual. The packaging is in English, why not a manual?

Hey guys,

I wound up doing the install today. Good news is that the unit powered up. Bad news, is that I am not getting any sound or any feed from the backup camera. This looks to be just because of the lack of instructions, as with the monstrous wiring harness and no instructions, i'm not sure which things should be proxied and which things should be directly connected. The manual that was provided is purely a user guide and does not show how to plug in the units connections. I am still working on that, and once I figure out the way everything should be plugged up I will go ahead and do my install video. In the meantime, I am uploading the video for the headunit removal, and the integration of the headunit in the merryway chassis right now and those should be up shortly.

If anyone has any better pictures of what the cables connect to, and where they connect to on the harness, that would be very helpful. I've watched one of the videos in this thread where he is inserting the unit into an F-Type, but it skips some parts and then all of the sudden everything is plugged in and he's starting it up. I clearly see that the video component cable should be plugged into something, but I am just not sure what.

Going back to this, since I got the unit up and running - this is the exact interface that came with the one I received from Jenny and installed.

I'm currently unable to get the sound to work, and i'm not quite sure why that is - also, getting the backup cam working was a bit of a challenge but I figured it out (There are some supplied connectors). But, I did test and the backup cam comes on as soon as you put the car in reverse.

I have not seen anything that indicates the OEM screens will be available, this means no dynamic screen, no climate control screen, etc (Those are the only two things I used the stock HU for anyways)

Working with Jenny to figure out why I am unable to get any sound out of the system. I imagine it's because there are a ton of connectors and I am either missing one connection, or have it plugged in incorrectly (there are a few duplicate male/female connectors).

I have an install video and some initial startup footage, but because I wasn't able to get everything working properly I am waiting on publishing that. And install video is no good if I get it all wrong
