Difference in 2016 vs. 2017 R F-Types
I have been waiting to see if there will be any news from Jaguar with regards to adding a manual transmission for the R Coupe. Unfortunately, the most recent response from Jaguar USA was "no current plan to introduce". So, this leaves me in a dilemma - buy an automatic (certainly not the end of the world) now or wait for the 2017 model announcements. Given the scope of new items added to the 2016's, I am very reluctant to buy now in case they have more new goodies planned. Has anyone heard about any pending changes/upgrades/enhancements, etc. for 2017 R Coupes?

I heard rumors of a coupe in 2014 and it happened for 2015. I heard rumors of a manual transmission in 2015 and it happened for 2016. I heard rumors that the V8 will NOT be getting a manual transmission.
Take that for whatever you think it's worth.
Like Merlin, I also heard that the V8's torque was beyond what the transmission was capable of handling reliably.

Until recently, the only manuals capable of handle an R engine were the Tremecs (5 or 6 speed). Jag has a long history with ZF so they are unlikely to jump manufacturers. The rating of the 6-speed currently in use (s6-45) is barely enough to handle the torque of the V6S. Also, until recently, the S6-53 was the strongest manual that ZF has made, but still inadequate for the R. Recently, however, ZF began producing the S6-650 for the F-series Ford trucks that can handle 520 lb-ft of torque. Me thinks it should be compatible with 4wd. Two years ago, the official word was that they had no plans to produce any stick shift. It is possible the R might get a MT, but unlikely before the 2018 model year.

Now you got me thinking, what will be new for 2017? I'm thinking:
- optional retractable sunroof for the coupe
- minor hp/torque upgrade (on the V6, V8 might remain the same)
- more upgrades in the infotainment systems, especially integration with smartphones
- minor cosmetic tweaks here and there
I don't see any "big" changes like
- PDK/dual clutch transmision
- a 4 wheel steering system
- ride height suspension
- targa/T-top style model
what do you guys think will be new in 2017?

I really wanted a manual when I bought my v8s, but of course it was not an option. Having owned it for a year, I am not interested in the lower horsepower version, even with a manual. I think a v8 manual version will be offered at some point in time, maybe six or seven years into the product cycle. Jaguar has a history of offering special versions to prolong a model's viability in the marketplace.

-retractable roof mechanism will lower the headroom height which is already cramped also no place for it to go with rear hatch
-cooled seats - I was astounded this wasn't an option
-new touch screen info system to be on the soon to be released 4 door model
-having owned pdk I cant see that there's a need, the zf is that good

Astounded? Seriously? Aircon does a great job, but picking a seat material that doesn't get hot enough to fry eggs on is so much easier. Plus, when the salesman tries to sell you a feature rather than a benefit you can have no end of fun.
