Default Do you daily your F-Type?

Hi All,

I've recently started my hunt for the perfect F-Type, and have been on a couple test drives (Despite the cold weather here in toronto). I'm planning on driving my car on a daily basis to/from work and on the weekends. But am having a hard time deciding between the S and the R.

When i first started looking i was pretty much set on the R because of the sound and more power you get from the car. its just a different car with the V8. Not to say the V6S isnt good as well! its a fast car too! and sounds amazing in a more refined way. The thing is that all the R coupes i'm seeing here are about $20-$30k more than the S models, and also I'm wondering about the gas consumption... although its not the ultimate decision factor for me, gas is something to keep in mind.

What is your advice based on what you know about these two models? Would you daily the R? Is it worth the $20-30k extra? Or should i just get the v6S and take it in for a tune and pulley upgrade?

V6S here, daily driven, except not in the winter, and generally not in the rain. So I put around 8K year on it.

Getting it out of winter storage tomorrow.

After 4 years, still love it.

Had my car since December 10 and only have 1,900 miles on it.
However, i'm going to Vegas next weekend and will put around 600-700 miles on it.

2014 V8S. Just hit 18k miles and daily driven to the office. Only time it stays at home in the garage is when it snows.

Not my daily driver because I have no safe (dent free) parking at work. Still put on 1000 miles per month and wish I could drive it more. Certainly DD material. A 450hp tuned V6S certainly has enough power to get your jollies.

V6S here having come out of an XKR. I use it as a daily driver, about 10,000km in 12 months. It is really easy to live with and pretty practical once you take the spare out.

On R vs V6S, as mentioned I came out of the XKR. I can push the V6S a lot harder so it is more fun for me, the fuel savings are really pretty marginal - I'd say 10% driven normally, 20% driven hard - but noticeable. There was a huge insurance saving (over here) and also a biggish registration saving. All of that said, I would have bought the R if there wasnt such a huge price differential which over here is essentially $60K.

But I wish I'd bought a manual, it'd really suit the car.

I daily drive when it's not raining/snowing. Put about 2500 miles on in 4 months of ownership. I plan on putting on a lot more when spring rolls around. I'd recommend switching to some all-season tires if the car you pick up is still rocking P-Zeros though.

The R is an easy car to daily drive. I'm getting old and want to enjoy myself and this car allows me to do that.

I have put 14,000 miles on my '16 V6S coupe since I bought it in June. I'm an airline pilot so don't drive it to the airport, but when I'm home for 4 or 5 days at a time I find myself looking for excuses to drive.....grocery store? Sure which one is the furthest away ;-).

I chose the V6S purely for the 6-speed manual transmission. It is so well balanced and such a great over all car.

A guy at my gym has an R and he even said mine is the true sports car. He called his a straight line dragster.

Either way you CANNOT go wrong with this car. I have loved every mile in it. Even did a road trip to from Dallas to Palm Springs and back and it was a joy!!

Are you comparing base coupes to R's? When I optioned up the V6S, I recall maybe 15k difference. After my back to back test drives, I knew it had to be the V8, but I had a 470hp XF for 4 years, so I didn't think I'd ever be happy with the V6. Is a manual something your interested in? Then V6 only.

I drive mine dailey for 3 seasons; 5k miles the first 3 seasons. Can't wait to get back in it.

If it is a rwd R, can he keep it in a straight line?

I daily drive mine. It's my only vehicle and works fine as such. I don't have kids though, and will use the fiancés car if we really need to haul something large. Suprisingly, the FType can handle the costco run just fine... and fast.

Daily driven R, in winter too. In the words of Chris Harris - "If you're gonna get an F type, get the one with the big engine and lay black stripes everywhere!"

Daily driver. I do about 1000 miles per month (we don't have kilometers here in the US).

I'd have gone for the R to "lay black stripes everywhere" except for two things:

1) A bunch more money
2) No manual transmission

It's impractical, with poor carrying capacity and terrible visibility, but I love it.

I just bought my S AWD for a daily driver. It arrives tomorrow and I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. I did switch out of the P Zeros after bad experience using Summer tires in the fall in the mid-west.
