I bought the drilled/slotted Geomet rotors from R1. I bought the Geomet since they are suppose to be rust resistant and although I live in AZ with slim to zero rain I wanted the calipers to not rust up after each wash. The rotors showed up and they are a matte finish and the coating has some "scratches" or areas that are not fully covered so I emailed the company saying they are essential "scuffed up." Originally the guy offered a bit of a discount and then later another department emailed me stating they have that matte finish only until they are worn in and then all that coating is removed by the brake pads and only the hub will have the matte finish. I am confused then on if the coating is what prevents the rust (I am guessing here) then what is the point if it rubs off when the brakes are applied? Also my concern would be if the coating gets worn off as the brakes get applied what about the groves of the slotted portion of the rotor? That is recessed and wouldn't get the friction from the pads to wear off the coating. I have emailed the company and awaiting a response but wanted to know in the meantime if anyone has experience with this brand.
Any and all coating on the swept surfaces of the brake rotors will be (and is meant to be) rubbed off very quickly by the brake pads, otherwise the brakes would not work as intended. Such coatings are designed only to prevent or at least reduce rust on the unswept areas ie the hats, hubs and edges.
I don't know whether the coating is applied before or after the slots and holes are put into the rotors but I suspect it is after, in which case the coating would remain in the slots and holes but they are such a small proportion of the swept area it would make little or no difference to braking performance.
The swept areas of all iron rotors will rust if the car is left undriven for some time, it is one of the main and best giveaways of a false "runs and drives" used car ad.
I have a set and the painted mine black before install so they match/blend with the inside of the wheel well. Any colored or coated rotor will have the braking surface rubbed off when used; there is no rust proof braking surface that I am aware of. They may be speaking of the hat and the edge with the heat vents for the rustproof portion. I also painted the grooves and drilled areas of the rotor so I don’t have any rust there either. I get surface rust after washing, but that’s about it mine have been on for two years, but I only drive the f type like 400-500 miles per year.

And I thought I drove minimal at around 2800 per year
Yep, we work from home and have cars for different needs, so the few miles we drive get split up between each. I actually wish I had more places to go.
I have the R1 Concept Geomets drilled and slotted rotors on my 2010 XKR, and I love them. Not only are they smooth as silk (and I've had them on the car at least 3 years if not more), but I noticed very early on, that I almost had no signs of rust after washing, And that surprised me. I also found their customer service exceptionally good and knowledgeable.
You might consider using CF brake pads? They deposit a black coating from the CF on the swept area's. I run Porterfield's but there are other brands.

@OzXFR is on the money. If you've ever looked at a daily without coated rotors (especially up north) take a look at the vents in between the 2 braking disc surfaces, almost guaranteed to be full of rust. The coating also helps to prevent rust from formin on the hub face of the rotor which makes swapping them out that much easier for the next time you change them.
Rock Auto sells 'coated' rotors for all the F's various brake sizes.
We fitted our Daily with Centric's coated rotors. With the OEM rotors, " the vents in between the 2 braking disc surfaces, almost guaranteed to be full of rust" was a truism. Needed to be cleaned out every tire rotation!.
No such issues with the Centric rotors...tho' I have learned to LOOK now.
Oz is spot on. I installed them a while back and if it sits for a few days there’s been no surface rust haze like on the wife’s F Pace. That is a normal condition though and not a real concern.
