Door lock assembly

When I press the remote key the car is locked but the driver side door handle doesn’t retract. Exerting a bit of pressure on it doesn’t move the handle at all. The Jaguar centre I took it to says that whilst they can get the actual key into the lock it will not turn. Having taken off the door card I am told the key lock assembly is broken. I have no idea how this could have happened, I never use the physical key and there is no visible damage to the door ((ie as if someone had tried to break into the car) and there is nothing in the lock obstructing the key. The repair bill is very expensive and I have been quoted prices for a new latch, a new lockset but also a new door handle which will have to be spray painted to match the car. The latch and lockset I can understand but not a new door handle. Any experience of this happening to others would be appreciated. Or a description of how these three parts are assembled together.

I had my door handle refuse to work by touch but worked in every other way. It was a failed sensor. But you can't buy the sensor you have to buy the entire assembly including the exterior handle! Back in '18 this was $495. Extended warranty declined due to wear and tear clause. My service manager got Jag to pay for parts and I payed labor, about $450. "14 V6S vert.

My door handle was causing a parasitic drain. It was replaced under warrantee. It was a pain they had to order the part 3 times, they had the wrong side in the box. Left part in a box labeled with the right part number. It was a long mess. It works great now. They actually said there were no parts available. They actually took the electronics out of the old handle because they couldn’t get the right part. Good luck.
