Not familiar with your car but I do recall having a problem with one of my previous cars.
Turned out the lock mechanism did not return to its normal position and with the latch in the wrong position it simply would not close.
You are tempted to keep trying to slam the door shut but it simply will not close because the latch is jamming it.
As best I recall, fiddling with a screwdriver and applying some WD40 encouraged the mechanism back into the right place and solved the problem.
I do not recall it being a recurring problem - just a one-time event.
