Double-locking an F-Type Convertible
Does single-locking set the alarm on a 2016 F-Type?
If so, what does double-locking do? Does it set the alarm to go off if the door is opened from inside or the car is started ... which would be an extra bit of security of a convertible which could be entered by slitting the top?

Had double locking in my BMW convertible. Nothing could be unlocked without the key or remote. My 2016 vert won't double lock the doors. However, if you open the door when armed from the inside, the alarm is triggered,the boot, glove box and little compartment remain locked. That's it. No double locking.

I also have the 2016 F-Type vert and I'm finding that one click on the key fob locks it; and a second click cause the lights to blink and the horn to burp. I'm thinking that double-locks it.
Is the difference that the 2nd click arms the alarm to blast if anyone tries to open it from the inside and the single click only arms the alarm if someone tries to open the door from the outside ... or, maybe, start it?
Is that double-locking for those of us with verts that could be accessed by slitting the top?

Double-locking an F-Type Convertible
I've now tried every variation for locking the F-Type:
Drivers side door - closing the handle locks the door and arms the alarm; pressing the end of the handle (to double-lock?) locks the door, arms the alarm; and causes the horn to beep once;
Passenger side door - closing the handle only closes the door. No way to press the end of the handle. Nothing locks; no alarm; no horn beeping;
Key fob - one click locks the door and arms the alarm; 2 clicks locks the door, arms the alarm; and causes the horn to beep once.
Is the only advantage of double-clicking/double-locking that the horn briefly sounds to confirm that the car is locked? Is that all there is?
I did discover that the doors won't lock if the key is inside on the seat. Pretty amazing. The doors lock if the key is an inch outside the car; bit won't lock of the key is an inch inside the car.

Odd: on mine, putting pressure on the end of the passenger door handle locks the door and arms the alarm. Fob must be present.

I agree with lhoboy - "putting pressure on the end of the passenger door handle locks the door and arms the alarm. Fob must be present."
Note that a passenger can't lock the door/arm the alarm unless the driver (i.e., the fob) is present.
But, query - what does the 2nd click (on the fob or on the handle) do that the 1st click doesn't do?
Does the 2nd click simply trigger the horn/light to give you positive feedback? Is that all there is?

Yes, I believe that's all it does as a reminder that the car is locked. You can click the lock button the 2nd time or 20 times, and it will trigger the beep and light flash every time. Pretty much every other vehicle with the fob does exactly the same thing.

Car double locked, opened the hatch, dropped the key in, then pressed the button to close the hatch. Hatch attempted to lock, aborted, double beep, then hatch raised 1/2 inch and double beep again.
Unlocked car, dropped the key in the hatch, shut hatch without a problem.
Attempted to lock car with the door handle, double beep and handle sprung open.
