Like I've said before, I have minimal knowledge on the technical workings of the Jaguar product......I'm pretty good with the Big 3 American brands, but can't rely on those parameters for the Jaguar product. I can say though, the ECM's in American cars have a memory bank that is non reverseable and can not be erased. If one goes in any reflashes any of the drivetrain factory software parameters, then later (most likely a dealer visit for something) elects to reflash the manufacturer's stock parameters, those electronic modules hold the data that reflashes have been made and what the prior software modules consisted of. That thought of flashing back to the stock software parameters so you can get a warranty claim or whatever, doesn't get it done on American vehicles....you'll get caught.

Has anyone had their F-type tuned for a few years? I'm curious about the longevity of the drivetrain and cooling system from the people that have had it for a while now. Any reported issues outside of routine maintenance?

VAP tune since Nov 2017, Eurotoys lower/crank pulley plus VAP "stage 2" tune since March 2018, zero problems.
MY 2015 V6S coupe.

33K miles since tune over 4 1/2 years ago. Pulley added last year, with only a paltry 1300 miles since then. My miles/day average plummeted in the second week on March last year from 29 to 4. Other than not going anywhere I've had no trouble related to the tune.

I'm picking up a 2018 V6 cabriolet tomorrow. While under warranty I'm not even contemplating messing with anything other than adding illuminated sills.

When warrsnty is over though I'd like to basically bump this up to the next trim level so to speak. I would imagine the S is just a different tune, potentially one I could get as a factory remap type situation?

While the thought of putting a new pulley and a tune designed for that would be great to achieve over 400, honestly just the bump without a pulley should suffice.

Can that be done relatively safely? Just nudge it up to what the next trim level is by applying the same tune the factory would have done?

Thanks for any info, cant wait to pick it up tomorrow.

The VAP "tune only" takes it to around 412 hp so more than the highest factory V6 output of 400 PS per the discontinued 400 Sport.
Although from all reports and in my experience almost all of that increase is at the top end with minimal torque or power increase lower down.
I *think* VAP can give you a tune for the base 340 PS to take it to the S 380 PS if that is what you want, but the factory / Jag dealership simply will not do that under any circumstances. But why would you pay for a VAP tune and then settle for 380 PS (375 hp) when for the same money and perfectly safely you can have 412 hp????
And the VAP 375 hp tune, assuming it exists, is not the factory S tune and I don't know anyone who sells that tune.
Bottom line - once your warranty expires just get the VAP 412 hp tune and don't worry about anything!

Most of the thread about tuning advantages/disadvantages refers to possible impact on reliability and warranties. However, and this might not apply in other countries, over here in the UK you end up being uninsured unless you inform your insurance company about the mods. If you inform them, the increase in premium can be very considerable. If you don't inform them, and have an accident where someone is hurt.......not good!

I've been mulling this over for quite a while.. We got the car and my fiancee has been driving it exclusively since then. I've only had the opportunity to drive it a few times and only once really able to push it. The back tires break loose pretty easily, although its the same engine as what is in my XF, my XF is AWD so traction is substantially better.

My Fiancee is perfectly happy with the way the vehicle is right now, coming from a pretty slow SUV to this is quite a shock for her. I think you are correct though, its not going to cost much more at all to get that extra bump up to the low 400's and if I'm already going to tune it why not?.
