driver door not locking by handle

That's how I lock my car. If it locks by the button on the fob but not that way, I'd suspect a bad switch in the handle assembly. If it doesn't lock with the fob, i.e. it just won't lock, there may be a sensor detecting that something is still not closed fully.

[QUOTE=otokar;2326544]am i correct in thinking if i push the driver door handle in then it should stay in and lock the car?
if i push it in it just comes right back out and does not lock the door or car[/QUOTE
Thats how mine works. I thought you pushed button at first but you do that to unlock. Just push right side in and it locks. There are also serttings in your center instument cluster.

Since your FOB works, your problem seems isolated to the driver's door, but it would be worth trying to lock the car from the passenger's side handle, as well.
In other cases, the car will refuse to lock if something is left open (door, trunk, hood). In that case, you'd be hearing a whinny double beep whenever you tried to lock up.
That will also happen if you have a bad sensor that "thinks" something is open, even if nothing is. In that case, it's a bit annoying because you can't lock the car at all.

i followed all the above suggestions.
The passenger door will lock and double lock both doors by pushing it in
both doors will unlock by pressing the button on either door handle.
The driver side door handle just pops back out and does not lock if i push on the handle, i tried pushing twice to double lock but it just comes right back out and does not lock

If it works every way except pushing it it is a sensor inside the door. I had this happen out of warranty and found out only option is to get the whole assembly, $900 including labor. I was fortunate to have a service manager who got the parts paid for on some kind of VIP program and I paid $400 labor. This was a year and a half ago. If not on warranty thats what your looking at or just live with it.

From my Owner Manual:
"Note: Double locking secures the vehicle and
prevents the doors and the Luggage
compartment from being opened from outside
of the vehicle. The doors cannot be unlocked
and opened from inside the vehicle. It also
activates the Full alarm system."
So for you Yanks with single locking the only the real difference is you don't get the full alarm system.

NAS (North American) F-Types never got double locking due to some BS NHTSA "safety" regulation, coz when the car is double locked it cannot be opened from the inside hence the kiddiewinks could be trapped inside.

hey Oz I always double lock because was under the impression that double locking(other than the alarm) put a lot of the systems in the car into off mode rather than standby so much less risk of battery drain. Can you or anyone else confirm?
Also the alarm is really sensitive and impressive. I had a very small garage remote rubberbanded to a unused phone mount and the rubber band snapped when in the sun. The alarm went off because the remote fell into the footwell !

Dunno how this works for our Yank friends who have single locking only, maybe it does the some maybe it doesn't.
I have double locked all my Jags when in the garage from day 1 coz I read many horror stories about batteries going flat if you only single locked.

Yep, I forgot to add that the Owner Manual says under double locking to also see "full alarm", which in turn says:
FULL ALARM
The Full alarm system is activated when the
vehicle is Double locked. See 15, LOCKING
AND ARMING THE ALARM.
Once activated, the alarm system will sound if:
• The bonnet, Luggage compartment, or any
door is opened.
• Movement is detected within the vehicle's
interior.
• A window, windscreen, or rear screen are
broken.
• The vehicle is raised or tilted.
• The vehicle's battery is disconnected.
• An attempt is made to disconnect the alarm
system.
Again I have no idea which if any of these "extra" functions are invoked on Yank single locking F-Types.
