ECU coding to disable airbags etc.
Hi,
My last track car was a BMW, and after doing some research I could rather easily reprogram the ECU to disable side airbags (after exchanging seats to Sparco bucket seats), driver front airbag (after changing to an OMP steering wheel) and do some other minor tweaks and configurations by connecting to the ODB2 port with my laptop. It also helped me solve problems with the steering angle sensor and DSC.
Is it possible to do the same thing with an F-Type? The F-Type base I have bought as a track car has the normal "sport seats" and not the performance seats, and sooner or later I will want to go to a 5-point harness and better seating support - ie a bucket seat. As I assume the side airbags are in the seats and not the doors (can anyone confirm?), changing the seats will trigger airbag warning lights.
I could ignore the warnings, but that would eliminate my chances of passing vehicle inspection and I wouldn't be able to legally drive the car to the track any more.
Grateful for some insight!
Thanks,
Jonas
