Default engine bay plastic insert cover

Newbee here so perhaps this has already been dealt with. Car is 2015 F type V6. recently purchased. . I am wondering what is the purpose of the black plasticy foamy insert between the supercharger and the strut towers body panel on each side of the engine. Its only purpose appears to be to make spark plugs and injectors very difficult to access. Is it for sound deadening? Could I get rid of them?

I would guess they are 90% for sound deadening and 10% for cosmetics, so I suspect removing them would cause zero problems.
But apparently they are a right royal PITA to remove and even harder to get back on!
Also the AJ133 and AJ126 engines are very rattly and noisy at the best of times and they are two of the ugliest looking engines out there so I doubt that removing them will improve anything much!

I think they are to keep rain off the injectors that will run into the engine compartment from the bonnet vents. I am really surprised no one else has brought this up. Yes they are a pain to remove or replace. I removed mine months ago, with no rain issues.

They are sound deadening pads or NVH pads to keep the noise down. Direct injection can be loud. I would keep them in if at all possible.

Thank you for the quick and informative answers. The car has 36000kms and is 4 years old, so I thought it would be worth looking at the spark plugs and these covers make it difficult. The noise does not bother me and I live in a place were rain is not a problem (Calgary Alberta Canada). I have to take them out anyway so I don't think I'll bother putting them back on. Thanks again
