Default Engine / transmission light on

Car is. 2014 V8S with 4k miles, I have owned it since new with 0 miles - check engine light came on today. Checked the oil level, the computer says ok.

I will make an appointment with Jaguar, but has anyone had this and what did it turn out to be?

Mine has come on many times - 2 (or 3, I've lost count) O2 sensors and a vapor recovery valve. The check engine light has come on 3 times since I last took it in, but has gone out on its own. Haven't gotten around to going back in.

4K miles, and check engine light never on. Never back to the dealer since delivery.

EDIT/PS: Check your gas cap and make sure it's threaded properly and sealed with at least 3 clicks. I know this may sound silly, but that is one of the most common causes of a check engine light.

Yup. I believe the Check Engine light is generally related to emissions, and not anything serious. I wasn't in a hurry to take my car in, and most times, the light has gone off on its own. Still worth having the dealer see what the deal is.

Thanks guys, checked the gas cap that was on nice and tight so no issue there.

Will make an appointment for the next couple of weeks but sounds like its not really urgent.

Even if it were something simple like a loose gas cap, it often takes the system awhile to reset. It would be a good idea to drive it for a week or so to give it a chance to reset, and if it does, it may not reoccur.

You can always get an inexpensive OBD II code reader which also resets the CEL condition. If you find an error code you can always Google its description on the web. Here is one that works with Android phones but, there are many others on the market.

As you predicted the light went out by itself tonight. I did remove and replace the gas cap so who knows, could have been that.

Good to hear. It's always nice when something is simple. If it does light up again, then you can get it checked at the dealer, but it quite likely won't.
