Default Exhaust Cutouts on F Type R

Has anybody tried installing electric exhaust cutouts to their f type R? I would like to make my f type louder without spending $2000+ on an exhaust system and I do not like the raspy sound of the 200 cell sport cats. I was thinking of installing a set of electric cutouts before the muffler. This way i retain the factory loud/quiet modes and will have a remote for when i want to bypass the rear muffler entirely.

Default Hello rlivine18 .....

Hi rlivine18,
Just wish to share two sample videos which show the Jaguar F-Type R sports car with the SuperSprint Sport Cats. Our sport cats have ZERO drone and ZERO raspy sound. The outcome of the exhaust system sound is dependent on how the exhaust system "sport cats" are engineered/designed at time of development, fabrication department. This is not an attempt to do an UP-SELL. Just wanted to explain, sport cats are not all the same, not equal to each other. There are absolutely big difference between one product with another product.
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Roberto

It could be done, but you'd probably need to install them somewhere in the cat section, I don't think there's room in the axle back area.

What you're asking about may be illegal where you are. If I understand your question, it's illegal where I am, and has been since before I had a driver's license.

Not off road, but that seems a rather limiting venue for the F-Type.

You'll see that disclaimer on MANY aftermarket products. Like the LED headlights I have installed. Do you speed?

I recall at least two XF owners (XFR or XF Supercharged???) have fitted electronically controlled exhaust cut outs, just can't find the posts.
And this mob make a range of cut out kits for Jags including the XF: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/shop/...0-11-509-14579.
Problem is those kits are designed for the axle back split exhaust system of the XF (and XJ?) Jag and not the very different rear pipes on the F-Type, so dunno if or how or where they could be fitted to an F-Type.

Kindigit Design in Utah sells the kits they use on their shows.

Do you know why they are illegal? What is the specific wording of that regulation/law?
I've asked the question about whether anyone has installed cutouts (or Zoomies as some call them) on an F-Type and never gotten this much discussion.

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here, but one should never break the law *unknowingly*. At a gathering a few years ago I was standing right behind an F-Type that had an aftermarket system and I just about jumped out of my skin. I can't remember which system was installed or whether it was custom. It was louder than all but one of my race bikes (the two-stroke). I like some sound (Ducatis with Termignonis, anyone?) but it was too much for my tastes.

Never heard the term "Zoomies" used in a car context, just pets. Probably regional.

California Vehicle Code 27150 has this to say:

"(a) Every motor vehicle equipped with an internal combustion engine and subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device."

Doesn't the OEM bypass the muffler for part of the exhaust? Seems illegal from the factory.

This was discussed in another thread, and there were pictures to with it. It doesn't bypass the muffler in the sport configuration, it just uses less of it. If you think of it as "regular" and "quiet" it might make more sense. When the valve closes it forces the exhaust to make a longer path through the muffler but even open it goes through some. At least one of the aftermarket systems does effectively bypass all of it when the valve opens, and it's really loud.

Zoomies may be "regional" if the Motor Trend television show "Bitchin' Rides" is regional. That's where I heard the term; it's what they call cutouts most of the time.
As for their legality, I'm just happy I don't live in Commiefornia. Is there anything the totalitarians there don't regulate?!

The OP did not specify location so I posted the regulation for where I reside. SEMA has a map and list of applicable laws by state. A quick scan shows maybe 45 states specifically prohibit exhaust cutouts/cut-outs.

Please do not descend into California-bashing, or any other area for that matter. That will lead to a locked thread and perhaps some timeouts being given to participants.

EDIT:

I forgot to paste the link for the SEMA site:

Better to be a well-informed miscreant than an ignorant one.

Are you trying to say that there are totalitarians overseeing personal opinions and that I must watch what I think and express?

On a privately owned forum, provided to you for free? Yes. The rest of the internet is for political flaming, but the moderators have done a good job in keeping it out of this forum, thankfully.

Indeed. Think what you want, but comments here it should be civil and on topic.
