The only time I had NVH issues was when my dual-mass flywheel was failing. I asked because it seemed a reasonable question in the context of light flywheels and the vibrations you've noted in the various combinations tested. I try to keep my eyes open for possible improvements.

Steve,
Fair enough. Thanks for your concern.
When we drove VW bugs in the 1970’s and 80’s, no one complained about driveline vibrations when lugging the car up a hill.
Well, OK, the back seat passengers would yell at the driver to downshift.
So I downshift to address the NVH at low RPM in my lightweight flywheel equipped F-Type.

BMW (and many other makes) use rubber isolators in the driveshaft to provide some torsional dampening.
This should help, but I like the more solid feel of the F-Type’s mechanically tight driveshaft.
The XK8 came with driveshaft isolators…. Hmm… that could be an option to reduce NVH in my F-Type Manual.
But I would have to change over the output flange of the Tranny and Rear Diff…. Or splice in the XK style driveshaft to the 6bolt flanges.
It could be done…

Update:
I finally found the appropriate friction disc for the "Sport Touring" application.
The below friction disc has the correct specification:
  • 8 mm thick, correct hub and splines
  • transmittable torque up to 530 Nm
  • organic material with copper flake,
  • Marcel springs pointed in the correct orientation
  • sprung center (spring pack to flywheel side)
This friction disc comes from a Porsche 996 non-turbo application which uses the same pressure plate as the Onca Engineering solution, and also interfaces with a deep dish flywheel.
I purchased the disc from a Porsche/Audi/VW upgrade shop in California and it appears to be a commissioned design from ACT.
I will be fitting it to my V6 MT F-Type in the coming month to test it out, and I will then report back the results..
