Default F-Type Front Lowering Springs DIY

Hi Group...

After publishing other DIY articles/documents on this forum, I thought I would continue as I do mods to my car, to the extent they are useful and/or helpful.

As mentioned before, modifying cars is my relaxing hobby. I enjoy learning about them and modifying or fixing them. For the last number of years, I have been doing that in the Porsche and BMW forums/communities,
so I thought as I continue to modify (play) with the F-Type, I would document some of those items here as well.

I recently installed lowering springs, with quite a few challenges noted HERE. I took some photos and documented the process, and put them in my DIY template. I have attached the FRONT process, and will likely get the REAR posted soon...as time permits. As mentioned, the Porsche forums found these useful so I continued to produce them. If not useful, I still photograph and document for my own records.

I eventually was able to get the proper VAP springs installed and the results were exactly what I was hoping for. (Read the link above and you will understand )

NOTE: These are created in the spirit of helping others. If you have a better way of doing it, knock yourself out!...this is simply what worked for me.

DC

45 minutes per side is what it took me with a helper and jackstands.

I would allow about 4 hours +/- to rack/lift it, remove wheels, remove struts, install springs with proper spring compressor, re-install and torque properly, re-install wheels and lower and torque to specs.. This is four all 4 F & R, as you asked.

I never have a helper, but that will make re-inserting the struts into the towers go much bettef/quicker, especially the rears.

Good luck,

I have some helpful tips on this video for the rear struts re-installation. That was the most difficult part for me and my helper (wife). Lining the strut and control arm bolt together took a lot of tries and guess work to find the right angle.

Did you guys replaced all the nuts and bolts? If so, anyone have a list of what to order both front and back?

At 69k miles, mine still looked good so I reused them. I had also marked them with sharpie to maintain the same alignment and torque for reinstallation.

Yeah i figured it’d probably be fine, a nice peace of mind if parts were cheap and easy to find though.

Anxiously looking forward to the resulting ride, had less than ideal result on my last lowered car, hope this one is different!

I used VAP, and they are progressive springs, and I would say they may actually ride better than OEM They certainly are not harsh at all. I would not be concerned about ride quality...It is good. Cannot speak for any others than VAP.

Good luck,

The H&Rs smoothed out the ride a bit as well, but the drop may be too extreme for most folks.

I have the Eibach lowering springs installed and I like them so far. They are very similar to stock in terms of ride quality and comfort. Just slightly stiffer. The drop is perfect enough that I don’t scrape on my driveway. Any lower and I’m sure I’ll end up scraping.

Looks like you’ve gone East LA low-rider on us.
