Default F type that has heavy intermittent thump when driving. Help??

Hi I’m a virgin poster

have an f type that has developed a heavy intermittent thump sound when driving. Not engine and jaguar house have it and can’t find what it is either. Not related to speed but must be moving. Can make the sound when slowly turning as well as driving straight. Is particularly prone when on uneven surfaces. Seems that the usual stuff is out given Jaguar can’t find it themselves. Any ideas? I’ve seen a thread about the way the body work connects together but not sure whether this was idle chat

regards

Shaun

Have they checked engine mounts?

Default Re heavy thump on f type

Thanks for speedy reply.

jaguar have had car for 24hrs now and they still don’t know what it is. I would have hoped they’d checked suspension, struts and engine mount but hey I’m up for getting on the phone and asking. There are a few threads relating to extraneous noises which do mention engine mount, soft top hood rattle and something to do with a bodywork connection failure but not sure whether I dreamed that one up! Thanks I’m going to call now

regards

Shaun

Early model years could produce a thunk on low speed turns. I believe there was a TSB about adding sleeves to the rear suspension. Don’t know what MY you have.

A few have reported loose bolts on the cross braces at the top of the engine bay, which can produce clunks too, I think.

Default Reply to the clunk on my f type

Many thanks for your reply. Did see a thread about bushes needed but don’t know if that is under jaguar extended warrantee. At moment have paid £240 for them to investigate with no joy so far

Guessing the engine mounts/cross support bars. I had the same issues with a "thump" and found the T50 (I think) star bolts holding the support bars on top of the engine bay nearly loose enough to turn by hand. It's an easy check if you have a T50 Star Fitting and you can do it yourself. I would add some industrial thread-lock and tighten them down if you find that to be the case. I check them now and then when I have the bonnet up.

I would assume (hope) Jaguar would have checked the mounts, but you never know. It's a pretty common item on that car.
