I have a coupe so it was relatively easy to do, you dont need to remove the seats just the door and centre trim the pull the parcel shelf towards you. However the amp is nothing like the replacement one. It only has three cables present, not five.

Considering these plugs look different to the amp I have I am now stumped.
Mine looks like this but it has an extra wire plugged in at the bottom but the wire leaves the speaker holder and goes under the dash - I have tried pulling it out from under the dash but it won't move

A few questions:
I have a 2018 F-Type with the cheaper meridian system and InControl Touch Pro

1.) should I expect the wiring to the center speaker to already be in place?
2.) is the upgraded amp plug and play? I know I won’t get the extra settings options without extra coding.

im looking to do some sort of upgrade, the audio sounds very compressed/muddy currently. I don’t need a top of the line system, but I feel this is a good start.

All the speakers are the same between the 380W system and the 770W system apart from the center fill speaker, which is actually a pair / dual-cone speaker. The speakers aren't made by Meridian, actually they have no branding on them at all, most likely they are from a Chinese factory of PSS (formerly known as Philips Sound Systems) who were a long time supplier to JLR.

Meridian is just software and a marketing gag...

What? What do you mean?

The amplifiers for the "Meridian" systems are actually the same ones used in the Bowers & Wilkins branded audio in the 2012 XF before they switched to Meridian, and the Harmon Kardon branded systems in some of the Land Rovers. The actual amp that I fitted to this F-Type came out of a wrecked Range Rover Evoque...

OK so...

The center fill speaker;

Attachment 131355

Attachment 131356

As per usual, a Land Rover branded item in a Jaguar box. Actually this speaker is a bit unusual in that you can only order it with a Jaguar part number...

The speaker is mounted in the rising air vent assembly and is covered by the same grill.

Attachment 140392

The amp is harder work. Pulling out the rear scuttle without breaking anything is not my idea of fun...

Attachment 140393

But eventually the amp is exposed and it can be swapped over.

Attachment 140394

Attachment 140395

The next step is the kicker...

You need to be able to edit the Car Configuration File (CCF) in order to be able to activate the surround sound functions. A dealer is not going to do this for you. But the dealers diagnostic equipment can be unlocked in order to make these changes.

Without the software changes you do not get the upgrade.

After which you get the Surround options on the screen.

Attachment 140396

I've done the Surround Sound upgrade on a few cars now; Land Rovers LR2, LR3, LR4, Evoque, Jag XF's, and now F-Type. The difference in sound is always an eye opener (or ear opener lol)

Such an improvement for relatively little effort, $75 for a speaker and $400 for an amp off eBay...

The center fill makes the sound come out of the entire dashboard, you can't point your finger at the speaker grill and say "there!" the sound is a proper full surround.

And no rattles, no mud, turn the subs up full and it's fine.
Please give mme the part number of the 720W amp. Does it plug straight in to the wiring and the mountings?

Hey,

first off all thank you for this awesome distribution of information in this forum. I have done this upgrade to my 2014 F-Type (dynamat, Speakers, Amplifier). Changed the CCF-File and also upgraded the firmware. Everything went well so far despite one problem I am currently struggling with. I get some interruptions in the audio. They seem to appear randomly. So the audio cuts out shortly, the mobile phone is disconnected and the navigation interrupted and I get back to the main screen. First of all I thought it would be a bad used amplifier (DX23-19C164-BA) and bought another used one. But the problem with the interrupted audio is still there. There are also some noises from the audio even if the car is sitting in the garage with engine off.

What I want to try is to change the calibration file of the amp to the newest version. To let the car think it was originally equipped with a 770W system i want to change the As-built file. Can someone tell me what the exact designation of the big AMP in the file should be? So far I could not figure it out correctly even with the look on other as-built files.

Maybe some of you guys faced some similar problems and can me give me a hint to track down the problem.

Kind regards across the pond from Germany

Anything develop in this regard?

Yours has the 380W Meridian with NLI head unit, a retrofit to the factory 770W Meridian Surround is not feasible.

However, we are working on a solution for these systems which will add the missing centre speaker/channel, and provide a bit of fine tuning.

Will update this thread when the first one is ready.

This car had been in for the "Vibrations & Rattles" TSB when it was still a 380W system.

There is a forum member in New Jersey who could do this for you, but I haven't got any contacts on the West Coast yet.
Who is this man in NJ?? Id really like this done and I am in NJ. Cheers!

Hello,
I have a 2015MY with the 380w Meridian system. I would like to upgrade the amp to the 770w and as mentioned earlier in this thread the DX23-19C164-BA is the amp for this. When looking for this amp I came across a listing on a parts site and it showed other compatable amp part numbersNotesX23-19C164-BA

Compatible OEM #:LR093599, LR059385, LR045327, LR026011

Interchange:638-59444

Was wondering if anyone could confirm these numbers or had tried another one of these amps for the upgrade? I had found an amp LR045327 but the picture shows BJ32-192164-BF so since it does not match, I
am not sure if it will work. Connectors appear to be the same
Thanks for any input

Hi SurfCat... I just joined the Forum today, but have been looking into this very Topic and thought I'd give you a link
which may be of help to you regarding the Amplifiers and Speakers required for the 770W upgrade...

Go to the following link;

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...-GCUDU/pubhtml

It is an Excel Spreadsheet that shows what Amplifiers and speakers can be used in different vehicles...
Once here, click on the speakers link (highlighted in blue at the top left hand corner) This will take you to another link which also shows you the speakers...

There are many write ups here on upgrading the 380W to 770W surround Sound Amplifiers and Speakers
"Cambo" , "Paul Calvert" and many others have lots of information on this which should help both you and I...

It just takes ages to find the stuff and read and then understand what needs to be done... And then you also
have to find someone with access to Jaguar SDD Diagnostics to be able to modify the Car Configuration File
setting to enable the Surround sound features if that is what you also want...
I believe a swap to the DX23-19C164-BA 770W amp alone without the ccf file changes will still work
but without surround sound...

Good Luck...! We are in the same boat...!

I would recommend ditching the jag amp and go aftermarket. They actually do make an interface for your year jag that will get you a flat signal from the Meridian system to feed whatever amp you choose. Even a modest amp will be way better than the factory jag equipment.

Upgrading a 380watt system to a 770 watt system without hardware change? I have a 2021 F-Type,there is a company in UK that said they can upgrade a 380 watt to 770watt with out changing any hardware, can you get information on how this is done or refer a place that does this in the US?

AFAIK the 770 watt system has a "surround" speaker in the centre of the dash (on top of the rising air vent) that the non-surround 380 watt system does not have, if so a significant hardware addition. Also AFAIK all the other speakers are the same.

Default Speaker is there!

Apparently the 2021 model does have the center speaker! Supposedly everything's there is just a software update? That's why I was hoping you would know how to do this software update or where I can get it done? The 2021 F-Type has all the speakers in it's just that one system is 380 watts and the other one is 770 surround it's just a software update from what I understand...

have you even read this thead?
the amplifiers are different. That’s also why you can’t order the 770w system at the moment and have to settle for 380w system. It’s not just software

F-TYPE ACTIVATIONS - MY19+

Meridian Surround Sound Amplifier Upgrade - £300

Our research has shown that 5.0 F-Types that have the characters KCK, LCK or MCK in the last eight characters of the VIN have the ability to have a Meridian to Meridian Surround upgrade without the change of any hardware (extra dashboard speaker is already present). This is an ad from the company L R Retofits my vehicle's VIN number fits into their advertisement, they're not located in the United States so I was seeing if this can be done here in the states if anyone knew so you can read this to see that I did read the thread I was asking something concerning it upgrading the sound like this company does...

That’s quite a find if that is the case. Their 995 GBP upgrade is obviously the amp swap. Maybe you have found something special. Good luck . The software swap is doable obviously. They are suggesting your car among other has the 770 amp that has been given 380system software from factory . Lucky you if that is the case

sorry but that reprogramming requires specialised tools/SDD and is way beyond me. I suggest you reach out to the great “Cambo” who knows all on how to do the software recode for the amplifier
