F Type which one?

Hi all
F Type here I come. Some advice from those that own them. I am looking at a retirement present for sunny days out & weekends away with the wife. I definitely want a convertible. I am looking at around the £40k mark but do I go for 2016/17 v6 or a 2018/19 2.0 4. I am leaning toward the 6 but a newer 4 sounds nice. This car will be a keeper, car port built and power point for trickle charger. I know the 6 sounds glorious but not had any experience of the 4, do they sound good?
Thanks in advance looking forward to reply’s

Hi Chris,
I have a V6S AWD and it seems like there are a number of V6 base owners on here who are looking for upgrade options for their vehicle that came standard on the V6S such as active exhaust, limited slip differential, etc. I don't know all of the differences but I would say building a car on the jaguar website and identifying the things that you would want for your car before starting your used car search might help identify the right car. If you do decide to do this, I think building it off the base model (2.0 4) would make most sense because all of the options will be displayed vs. a higher end model which has it standard and you may not notice it. Since they came out with the 2.0/4, I'm guessing that replaced the V6 base so it will have the equivalent standard equipment with the same options.
Do you plan on driving this car like a maniac and racing everyone who hears your exhaust and wants to challenge you? If not, the 2.0/4 might be the better choice. From the reviews I've seen, everyone calls the 2.0/4 the "thinking man's F type".

In a coupe the 6 is definitely better sounding. I found in a vert that the 6 was a little too noisy for me, it was actually annoying with the roof down (I had one as a loaner for a day) though maybe that was because I spent half of that day with my foot flat to the floor.
The 4 doesnt sound as good but sounds great - for a 4, and I love that engine which we have in our XE. Linear, smooth, plenty of poke with a nice throbby note.
Completely contrary to what I have said, personally unless I was cross shopping previous shape 6 against new shape 4, I'd buy the older 6, and then to confuse you again, the interior spec would be a factor as well, as some look very premium (extended leather, nice fascia) whereas some look a bit Hyundai.

Thanks for that datriani, my maniac days when when my fast Yamaha went. That said would not rule out the odd track day. An F Type is definitely a by with your hart car that means the 6, but head says 4 over 6. Like your idea about the jag web site. Think as dealers are now open again a test drive of a 4 might be in order to see if makes my hart and head happy.

You shouldn't buy an F-Type with your head ....

I had a 2017 V6S and it was a joy to drive. Very well balanced. The exhaust note really sings and seems slightly louder inside a coupe cabin than the V8R at times. (I believe that's because the Exhaust is centered directly compared to the split quads on the 8
However, the acceleration of the V8R is excellent and the different Growling, gurgling, ball bearings across a marble floor and roaring noises give the R an edge to me.
Also, the 2017 R is very very loud outside the cabin.

That's what I've heard, not that I agree with it, ha. I bought a V8 Range R and loved it but the horrible gas mileage (especially if you drive A LOT) started to get to me so this time around I opted for the V6 and with a few mods, it's a spirited car with just enough to keep me happy. So although I went with my heart and picked up an impractical car, I did use my head a little bit this time around and got a car much more reasonable on the monthly gas charges.

Saying that the 4 potter is for boring men is like saying that buying the 8 is to compensate for a small dick. I'm sure that it is true in some cases, but would not be accurate in the vast majority.
On the other hand, saying that buying the S means that you are highly intelligent with an enormous **** would be 100% accurate, in my view.
