F-Type progression lineage link?
Hi Just a quick visit from a curious XK8er. Is there a link that shows the progression from the first F to the current F with the yearly changes/improvements? I am trying to balance what I can afford with what I cant live without in terms of toys of convenience :-) For example, does every F have BT, paddle shifters etc. and when was the V8 option first available?
Also what do F owners think is the best toy/convenience on their cars that they use most often (and maybe the worst one that doesn't live up to expectations
If you just feel like saying "get back where you belong" I will understand lol
Cheers,
Alan

Sadly, I haven’t seen such a document. Perhaps we should compile on here.
At some point, Dynamic Mode became standard on the base V6 - it wasn’t originally.
MY14 was the first year, with them shipping spring of '13 - V6, V6S, V8S, convertibles only.
MY15 was the first for the coupe, I think, and the V8S became the R.
Did AWD become available in MY16?
I have the '14 and '17-19 brochures. Gave away the '16.

Thanks for the info, very useful. I guess something I'm also trying to get at is there anything like what happened between the first generation XK8 (x100) and the second (x150). Second generation was a completely different beast even though the first ones of the second generation looked very similar. Are there 2 different cars hidden in the F-Type progression or is more a case of the V6 vs V8?
[QUOTE=Unhingd;195167 Vision package is a must. Avoid the heated windshield (causes weird glare).[/QUOTE]
Thank you, I will avoid the heated windshield, what does the vision package have?

"The worst, A sun visor that does not move to the side. Makes my Dermatologist happy, can you say Basal cell carcinoma? Sheesh"
Seriously? lol.

Would you say it's a must have? Makes all the difference?

The biggest difference came with the switch to all wheel drive rather than the engine size. Always have had the option of v6 or v8 but the V8 horsepower increase from 495 to over 550 just on the tune alone. They are different beasts to drive. The RWD is fun but you have to want it. The AWD has a few mor manners. I love my 14 V8S RWD rocket sled. As for must haves the one I find the most needed has been the vision package and the winter package for the seats. Extends my driving window by about 2 months.

2014 V6, V6S, V8S all verts., all RWD, all Auto Trans
2015 V6 & V6S coupe or vert, V8S vert (495 hp), R (V8-550hp), all RWD, all AT
2016 V6 AT or MT RWD, V6S AT (RWD or AWD) or MT (RWD), R (AWD AT)
2017+ add the SVR (575 hp AWD AT) to the 2016 lineup.
I lost track when they started to get fancy with the model names in '18 or '19 and added the 4-banger.
These are the model years designated in the US. Subtract 1 year to convert to the EU convention ( eg,. first model year was 2013).
Unless someone has debadged, the AWDs will have an AWD badge on the back end. The V6 power options and the V8 power options are established with a tune only as Marko has mentioned. However, the SVR has some minor hardware upgrades (prefilter air ducting and perhaps intercooling) which don't affect power rating but could positively affect on-road performance.

b In 2016 all f types went to electric steering (no more hydraulic), but it is excellent. Also, the vision package (at least on my '16 r) includes the rear view camera, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic detection, and front and rear parking sensors. Agree that it is a must have. There are different opinions over some of the more minor stuff, but I also have auto opening rear hatch (Coupe only) and key-less entry. Really nice to have, and I'd not want to give them up now that I have them. I also have extended leather interior which is very nice.
The SVR (first year 2017) also has a titanium exhaust and quilted (diamond pattern) seats and door cards. If you can afford $60-$65k you can get an 2016 R with just about everything (maybe even ceramic brakes) with 15k or less mileage.
First decision, manual or automatic, 2nd decision, coupe or convertible, third decision awd or rwd. If first decision is a manual then go directly to a V6.See Unhinged's post (and discuss at length with him).
