F-Type R Check Engine light - cannot scan
Hi All,
I just got my 2015 F-Type R back after getting my front tires replaced due to a nail in one of them that couldn't be fixed. As I was pulling into the service bay my check engine light came on. When I got home I tried to scan it, but the ODB2 scanner said the vehicle isn't responding. I tried with the car started and also in On (not running). I tried under Jaguar mode and Generic ODB2 mode with no luck. I have a car club drive to Borrego Springs I am co-leading tomorrow and wonder if it is safe to take the car?

Yes, start button pressed w/o brake depressed - engine not running and also tried with engine running. Where is the ODB port fuse? Car has slightly less than 10K miles on her.

Fuse is fine. I'll need to make an appt to take it in. Per manual it is emissions related for the CEL. Can be driven, but may go into Limp-Home mode. Bet it is the O2 sensor since that seems to be a thorn in the cat's foot.

I am riding with one of the other club members tomorrow and I will be navigator. Made an appt for next week with dealer service.

I brought the car into the dealer today. First thing they asked if I had put a code reader on it. The Service Writer (SW) said that causes issues (hmmm). He said the CEL code was for the evap system. He stated since I have a 3rd party gas cap (the locking one that most of us have) that it may not sealing and causing the issue. I told the SW that I've had the cap on for 2 years without issues. He wants me to put OEM gas-cap back on and see if code reappears (they cleared the codes). I am kind of leery about parking the car with unprotected gas-cap. He said this is the only way he can move forward and look for other causes if they eliminate the gas-cap as the issue.

Replacing the cap is an easy fix to try - if it goes away after a couple of days you know that is the issue, if not the dealer can continue their troubleshooting.
I don't think I have read one report on here of an owner having had their gas tank tampered with, personally I consider the risk to be almost negligible .

Good points. I misplaced the OEM gas cap when I moved into my new house (somewhere in many boxes), so ordered a new OEM one off of eBay. Hopefully CEL doesn't return prior to getting the replacement cap.

even if it does, the light will reset after several starts if the new cap resolves the problem.

I received a message from the eBay seller a little while ago (after he shipped) who said the cap didn't fit the F-Type even though the ad said it did.
I did find one at Reno Jaguar Land-Rover and ordered on-line. Hope this will work. See link below:
