Default F Type R sound with vs without ECU tune

I love the sound of the R, and was wondering whether an ECU tune would change that? Has anyone heard/compared the ECU sound of the R with the regular sound? As a power junkie ECU seems appealing, but I wonder if it would detract from its natural sound. Don't like the sound of boy racers!

I don't see how the tune could make any difference at all.

The tune would be reversible, no?

I wouldn't expect that it would, and indeed it didn't change the sound of mine.

Kind of off topic, but anyone with a R model owes it to themselves to try the VAP valvetronic exhaust. Yes, I know the factory exhaust sounds pretty good, but the Valvetronic drops the exhaust note about an octave, enhances the pops and gurgles, and really improves the sound in every way, especially inside the cabin (coupe model). And the quiet mode is factory quiet unless you are driving hard, loud mode is just sublime (when conditions permit), absolute head turner, but in a good way, not obnoxious. It was the upgrade I wrestled most with as to if it was necessary, but in hindsight it has been one of my favorite upgrades.

Yes, with a VAP or Eurotoys tune you can easily reinstall the stock tune if you want to, but the ECU will still (and always) show a tell tale code that a non-standard tune had been applied.

Any increase in cabin drone? I remember once trying a Quick Silver exhaust on another Jaguar model, and the drone frequency almost exploded my head.

No, absolutely no drone. That is with stock rest of the system. If you go to high flow cats or catless downpipes you may have a different experience.
I am very picky when it comes to drone, I changed my M3 exhaust about 4 times to get the sound I wanted without drone.

The VAP tune does change the sound of the car with the stock exhaust. It reduced the amount of pops and bangs on coasting and the top end sounded slightly less bassey if that makes sense.

The sound of the car will change with the tune. The car will definitely be louder, but all the characteristics of the F-Type sound will still be there just amplified. I got a modified tune from Velocity AP that kept all the pop, bangs and crackles perfectly intact.

I second the valvetronic exhaust, it's the best thing since slice bread. Its pretty much a required component if you go to 200-cell downpipes.

I personally did not like the sound with the tune. There was less sound at lower speeds where the car spent 90% of its life.

Back to stock software now and prefer the car with just the pulley.

When are we going to hang out? I was at Santana Row Cars and Coffee today, but I brought the Huracan out today. What's your instagram?

The VAP tune initially reduced the pops and crackles on my car as well, but Chris was able to dial that back in again.
On my V6, I upgraded to a V-8 quad VAP Valvetronic. That also resulted in a lower note and quiet ride at neutral throttle, but opens the gates of hell when heavy throttle is applied. Loud and resonant, not harsh or raspy (like the Quicksilver). Perfect!
