F-Type R Start Button?

The 2015 START button was Ignis in colour (yup…orange) not black. And it pulsed with the letters illuminated in red.
”Pulsed” is the correct term because the pulse pattern is that of a jaguar (animal) at rest. No kidding!
The black button is clearly a replacement (standard on the later cars) but it should still have that illuminated pulsing if it is an OEM piece

I believe the pre-16 models had start buttons that didn't fair to well with wear. I looked at a 2015 and the start button was entirely worn off and looked horrible. There were some other really warn items such as the door handle inlay that says Jaguar was rubbed off. Really turned me off on buying an F Type as I am overly particular on how a car wears especially with low miles. So clearly that is just an aftermarket replacement start button.

I thought the pulsing light was only when the system was awake but the engine was not running so went out to check. I don't see mine pulsing at all, but it is a replacement. It is OEM, so perhaps they discontinued that little easter egg (yes, the pulsing was noted in literature to be the resting heart rate of a jaguar). I replaced mine because it got sticky, not because the button face was wearing. By sticky, I don't mean in the tactile sense but that the button would not always pop back up. I did not have the Ignis but have also heard they did not last.

I believe the black starter button was standard on the base model (at least initially) with Ignis standard on S models (then Rs, etc.) I don’t think it was illuminated, but not sure. I got an OEM replacement for my Ignis one, as the paint was mostly worn off. Easy to replace, but I don’t know if you have the harness for the light.

Luckily I changed my slightly worn Ignis button a few years ago for a new one which still works perfectly including the illuminated heartbeat.
I might consider selling my old OEM button if the price is right!
Only slightly worn, some of the paint around the lettering has been worn off.

You should get the heartbeat when you first get in the car before you touch the start button, but if it doesn't work at first simply open and close the driver's door, again without touching the start button.
