Default F-Type R vs Corvette C7 GS ?

Figured I’d ask the same question here that I asked on my long time car forum elsewhere. Opinions from real world F-Type owners greatly appreciated.

Sooooooooo, been thinking about maybe swapping out my very low miles 2019 GS M7 2LT for a 2018 Jaguar F-Type R AWD.

Found a CPO with very low miles, that I’m being assured is pretty much dead mint. It’s a few hrs away and I have not seen it in person yet.

Question is......... For anyone who has owned a 2017-2019 F-Type R ,what do you think of it?

I am aware that my car is the last of its breed and will hold its value better than the Jag (sticker was $110K, offered at about $35K off that) whose value will keep going down.

Love the Grand Sport and have had zero issues. Many previous corvettes in the past. Zero current era Jaguars.

Car is pleasure only and just for a change of pace from Vettes.

This swap would pretty much be a wash price wise.

Would like an SVR, but there are only 3 CPO in the country, and all in plain (white or light silver), plus add another $20K. Not looking to do that.

Thoughts?

IMO, if you currently or plan to track the car, the C7 Grand Sport is the better track car. If you are just using it on the street with no aspirations for doing a lot of track days, F-Type.

Pleasure only. Lots of twisty mountain roads around here that either car is capable of.

No track days, no modifications.

The C7 GS is a better car in almost every way. I'd still pick my F-Type 9 times out of 10. Why? It doesn't make sense on paper, but the car just has it. The looks, the grunt, the rarity. For the type of driving I do, I'll never realize the areas the vette is better with the exception of the infotainment system. I'm not saying I drive it like a pussycat, I'm just not going all out on the street.

There have been a few cars in my life that have just suited me.

1987 Saab SPG
2006 Pontiac GTO
2008 Audi S5
2016 F-Type R

The Audi was a better car. I would not but it again.
The GTO...man, that was a great car. I would pick one up if I could find one that hadn't been beat up, but I wouldn't replace the F-Type with it.
I plan on being one of those old guys that 30 years form now that rolls up the garage, pulls off the cover and starts it, just to sit back and look and listen. There's achance when I can't drive anymore, I'll move it into the living room.

You're asking a tough question....C7 GS vs. F type R. Here's my 2 cents....
I just traded 6 weeks ago my 2018 C7 Z06 (4000 miles and perfect condition) on a new 2021 F type R. I loved that Corvette and I had made a few enhancements to the engine, probably added 50 HP to the standard 650 HP in the Z06. Wicked and scary fast, loud, torque out the wazoo and a head turner for the younger crowd...I'm 74 so 50 or less is the younger crowd. Got to a point where I got tired of seeing C7 Corvettes all over the place...a Corvette enthusiast knows a C7 Z06 from a GS from a basic Corvette, but outside of that crowd, they "all look alike" to most people. In terms of sheer beauty, the F type wins, hands down. In terms of handling on the road and and just feeling "in control" the F type wins. In terms of being distinctive, the F type wins. Raw grunt and engine howling, The Corvette wins. Simply put, the Corvette is like a broadax and the F type is a fencing sword. I loved the Z06, but right now, I'm thrilled I bought the F type R....I've received loads of compliments from people I know who knew my Z06. It's all emotion as far as I'm concerned, both are very nice cars....and my wife loves the Jag, she hated the Z06...."too loud, too noisy, too hard to get into with high heels and everyone wants to race you". Not sure if I'll miss that or not.......good luck

Make sure to check current prices on used C7s, 35K seems like a low-ball offer. Unless it is an automatic.

No, the $35K is the amount the Jag is priced below original MSRP. Heck, $35K isn’t even half of what my GS is currently worth.

Kind of going back and forth on this........

I really like the SVR fixed wing, interior, etc.

For those that have an SVR, is it “miles above” a well equipped R, or just a little step up?

Problem is that the SVR is so “rare”, I won’t be able to see one in person without flying/driving half way across the country.

Second guessing that if I get the R, I won’t be satisfied, so opinions certainly welcome.

I've traded in my 2015 C7 convertible Vette for a brand new 2017 convertible F-Type R in mid 2018. Got almost 30K off msrp, & JLR dealer gave me great trade in $ for the Vette.
Love them both in diff ways. But the 550 hp AWD F-Type is not as much fun to drive as the 460 hp RWD Vette.
My plans are to trade in my F-Type for C8 Vette in 2024, when my current warranty runs out & C8 pricing & availability gets better.
IMO, I would recommend that you hold on to your 2019 C7 Vette & get a C8 after your warranty runs out.

Trade-In Day...

I have owned many Vettes over the years and stopped buying them at the C5 model year. I loved the C6 and really loved the C7 when it came out but the car was EVERYWHERE. I literally got sick of seeing them and I am sure they are everywhere because they are a great car for the money. The same holds true for me with Tesla. I am so tired of seeing the same 4 body styles of the car but what little appeal I had to the Tesla is long gone despite they are damn quick, electric and in AZ your license tags are dirt cheap for an alternative fuel vehicle. I would personally love a C8 but afraid once they stabilize the price they will be more prominent on the street than the C7. And for the record I owned an 84 Cross Fire Vette, a 2000 coupe, 2001 vert, 2001 coupe (one silver and one red) and an 01 Z06.

OK, so let me throw a little something into the mix.......... Would you swap out this particular C7 for the F-Type R ? I know C7’s are super common, but not exactly common in this color (1 of 212).

The C7 GS is undoubtedly a better performer but lacks the style and grace of the F Type. Personally, I haven't been very attracted to the Corvette's styling since the 1963 Coupe. The C7 and C8 look like they were designed by a junior high kid with some inexpensive software program who was told to make a rendering of what a modern sports car should look like. Kind of like how ugly Lamborghini was able to make the Countach.

I realize that to some, performance outweighs style, but I think GM should hire some designers who attended a school in Maranello instead of growing up playing with Transfomer toys.

If you aren't tracking it, then it just comes down to personal preference. The F-Type is going to be a bit more unique. While your C7 is unique within it's color, model and other options; to 90% of the people it's just another Corvette. I don't mean that as a bad thing but the larger world outside of the Corvette world will not know or care how unique that combination is within C7's. They just know there are thousands of C7's rolling around.

My recommendation is go drive a F-Type. Doesn't have to be the one you are going to buy, but go drive a similar spec of what you want to buy. See if you like "driving" it as much or more than your C7. You are asking a forum dedicated to Jaguar whether you should buy a Jaguar or not...

But to the forum's credit, the responses seem fairly well balanced - no rabid fanboys here!

Exactly this. It's the same with 911s, too. If you don't know 911s, do you really know the difference between an S, and S4, a turbo, a Carrera, a Carrera S, a Carrera S4, A Carrera BFD, a Carrera JAFP, etc? I like 'vettes. They are a lot of car for the money and the new C8 really got my attention. Then I started seeing them everywhere. I saw three of them within about two miles on Sunday. I go to cars and coffee and there are vettes everywhere. This isn't a bad thing and clearly GM is doing something right. I test drove a C7 and was very impressed. I tests drove the my Jag and that was end. Game over. Done shopping.

Until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed. It's refreshing. Now that I think about it, years ago one of the forum members traded his F-Type in on an S63 coupe and if anything, the forum wanted feedback on the impression of the Merc. It is pretty refreshing that F-Type owners tend to own up to the car's shortcomings (seriously, how is an all aluminum car so heavy) and the lack of aftermarket support has forced the limited resources that do supply parts to step up.

Although I can't afford a new F-Type or a C7/C8. If I have to choose one. I will pick the F-Type. I will drive it at a moderate speed like the F-Type owners here in Houston. If some Porsche or Corvette try to intimidate me for a drag race, "I'll say go ahead, you win and I will just sit, relax & enjoy the ride while listening to my favorite radio station".
