Wow, back from the past, the wrap is still holding up great. I think it cost me $4,200 to do it but I know they raised their price for this substantially after we had it done. It is a dual layer wrap, clear over color, looks very much like paint as a result. Here is a picture from about a month ago.

Please keep us updated.

Also, do you always garage/car port the car?

Car lives in the garage and doesn't get out except on weekends. On really hot days there is risk the wrap will lift. But I've had good luck so far.

I can confirm they have raised their prices substantially.

I had a few parts wrapped a few years ago (front spoilers and beam, rear diffuser/valance) by the same vendor and they have held up very well without bubbling or lifting.
They do a good job.

My car goes in for a wash almost weekly with high pressure wand and the wrap has held up just fine.
The rear valance in particular is exposed to some exhaust heat so I was a bit worried I would need to rewrap it every now and then, but so far it's held up great.

I'm actually headed there today to get another couple small pieces wrapped....the prices have definitely gone up

If you put your car on a dyno, the wrap just above the tips will bubble because there is insufficient airflow across the car with just a fan to keep that area sufficiently cool.

Actually I did put my car on a dyno last week and the wrap above the tips looks fine!

The wrap or color isn't my cup of tea though I didn't feel the need for an antagonistic post on the subject. As far as the S vs. R thing goes, I sure hope anyone owning what is obviously a far superior R version of the car knows the huge number of changes between an S and R! LOL

I've always though the exact same thing. Everyone always refers only to the engine when talking the differece between base and R. Thats like pointing out only the HP difference between the 328 and M3. The differences throughout the entire F-Type are night and day as illustrated clearly in the brochure.

Actually, I was comparing the V8S vs. V8R so I was being sarcastic......there is a 40PS difference in the engine software and (depending on the year involved) a few minor differences corresponding to the model year changes so the cars are actually almost identical. Hardly enough for anyone with an "R" to feel all superior to someone with an "S".

Yes, the Base F type vs. a loaded V8 model is quite different.

Cheers,
Dave

I wasn't referring to the S, I almost traded my R for one then I was frustrated with the cabin and thought a vert would help.

I was pivoting on your post to point out what I had seen prior from those opting for base models for sports car purity reasons - like weight. Too much is sacrificed and the used market price point differences make this a silly trade off IMO. The sheer thousands alone just to get a similar suspension alone....

The "R" thing made sense back in 2014 because there wasn't a 'vert "R" V8 and the difference was mostly just the tune. So having an "R" 'vert just seemed like fun because there wasn't one. Of course Jaguar screwed that up the next year and the "S" V8 is now the more rare car. Thought about getting a tune to up the power but honestly I can't really handle what it has now and the problem remains that it isn't a power problem the car has it is a traction problem. It is still a ton of fun to drive though and if it ain't broke...

Just an FYI, but to add to this line of thought, you can certainly change the tune; there are aftermarket choices and people have downloaded factory R and SVR tunes into the V8S. One thing to be aware of is that the V8S, despite the literature stating 495PS/495HP runs the exact same tune as the 510PS rated XKRS so expect a 39hp/40PS difference between the S and R tunes rather than the 55PS you may expect

Not quite. The XKR-S (and XFR-S) run the same 550 PS tune as the F-Type R.
The standard XKR and XFR run the 510 PS tune.
AFAICT no F-type every officially left the factory with the 510 PS tune, except as you say the SV8 supposedly runs the 495 PS tune but there is lots of evidence that it is in fact the 510 PS tune.

Thanks for the XKR clarification. My point is (and was) that the V8S runs the 510PS tune despite any ratings to the contrary.....official or not.

Cheers,
Dave

S, R, whatever. I think I still have the only V6S RWD R AWD. The factory badged it that way, so it must be true.

I tend to go conservative with color for daily drivers, but I like to see things stand out in a wash of grey. I thought Firesand was outrageous when I first saw the color sample, but in person it looks fantastic. It even gave me a twinge of color choice remorse.
