F-Type Still the Best Looking Car

Yes, almost that simple . . . You should pay before you go. :-)
You only quote weights for the Z51 and Z06 above. The base is 3300.
Base and Z51 have the same 460 HP/460 TQ engine, but the Z51 has extra performance parts and creature comforts.

Then it must be the 2" in height? That's baffling. LOL I must be the rabbit with the pancake on its head
I love this Socal... I'm a huge skeptic, big rationalist, materialist, etc.... I love finding moments where my brain believes what it wants, and bucks reality. I don't like tricking myself, and I am unanimous in that.

round off error? I know how important 100 lbs is to you guys so I'll assume you are talking a +/- much less than that, right? :-)

...apparently they weren't repaving; they took it right out! I'll check around for a private scale.
The AWD system weighs more than the increase from V6 to V8. We have an F type R AWD in at 3954 lbs and three V6's ranging from 3667 to 3726. I'll go out on a limb and guess that my car will be 3800 - 3850 lbs. I'll post the results in the weight thread.

If my '16 S hits the scales at 3800 lbs, the '16 R will hit the scales close to 4100 lbs. Yes, with gas but no driver. $10.50 at a CAT public scale. Give it a try if you doubt me.

...and that was my point; the comment has been made several times that the V8 cars weigh 4000 lbs. They don't; having the V8 does not automatically make the car a 4000lb car. An AWD V8R on the other hand is very close to that number. I don't count fuel. ....one of the reasons I specifically wanted the RWD was to avoid the extra weight of the AWD setup.

Dave, we are agreeing, albeit violently. The problem is that starting in MY16, when one says V8, it's AWD by default and hence the additional weight. What's difficult to understand is that my full-size K1500 4x4 GMC pickup weighs 4200lbs with a 5.7 liter cast iron block and transfer case that compares to a 2 seater sportscar with aluminum engine and body that almost weighs the same. I just don't get it. Somebody wasn't minding the store when they were giving out lead weights.
....all in good fun.
But yes the weight is a bit surprising. I know this is apples and pumpkin pie, but my 1970 Superbee was almost exactly the same weight as my F type with a huge iron block 440-6 pack engine with a cast iron intake that weighs as much as some cars! The only aluminum (oops, Aluminium) on that entire car was the tranny case. Lots and lots of cast iron, steel and sheet metal. ....3850 lbs. Car is 209.7" long....
What it doesn't have is all the modern electronic crapola as well as safety gear and emissions stuff; no airbags, AM radio, no A/C and the only seat adjustment is forward or back!
As far as pickups go; mine weighs 8338 lbs so my car seems light in comparison! (Dodge Ram 3500 dually, Quad Cab, Long box, Cummins, 6spd).
On a somewhat serious note, comparing apples to applies (other modern cars with similar options), my only thoughts are that perhaps the F type has some more structure for rigidity since it was originally designed as a convertible and the coupe roof was added on without any lightening.....either that or the driveline must be heavy though I can't really see that since the engines are almost entirely aluminum and the 6spd and ZF aren't that far apart...
sorry, more questions than answers,
Dave

I'd love to be able to order a V8 as stripped as the base, but that's not an option.

Dave, I never implied it was the V8 engine alone accounting for the extra weight, but they come loaded w/ lots of other things that base cars do not. And yes, as Unhingd said, you can't buy a new F-Type V8 in NA that doesn't weigh 4K lbs.

And you can order a stripped, lighter weight RWD V8 F type in N.A.....it's called a Project 7! ;-) Costs a bit more though! Haha.
.....oooh, gotta get Zach to weigh his for the weight thread!

When I came here I thought this was a styling comparison, not Weight Watchers! I'm disappointed that the new Zagato has almost none of the styling cues that made the original so lovely back in the early 60's. That was a fabulous design; and much lighter than the factory car. Oops, back to W.W.
As for your chubby "F's", I like the front and rear, but the overall package does not motivate me to abandon my XKR.

Yep, fair enough; just pointing out that the V8S and RWD V8R cars are a bit lighter. So was 2015 the last year of V8R RWD cars or do they still sell them in Europe?

Actually, you can't order a Project 7. It was a very exclusive and limited run, and if I recall correctly there were only 250 allocated to the US and 50 or so for Canada. They've all been "sold" at least as far as JLR is concerned and no longer in production. There may be a few new ones left still sitting in dealer showrooms and marked way up. Otherwise, you'd have to find a used one.

"My weight is always perfect for my height, which varies."
Key is power-to-weight; I always loved Lotus cars like the Esprit, Colin Chapman did wonders with over-blown motors and super-lightweight construction. For track use, I'll take a Lotus or an Ariel Atom.
The F-Type is impressive on the track, given that it carries a lot of weight. I LOVED driving the F-Type R on the track (Jaguar Performance Driving Academy), but I bought the 380 HP V6 and I have not missed the power of the V8 driving on public roads.
And they are the most beautiful car ever built, thank you Ian Callum!
