I looked at this a few years ago and decided that the material and location indicated it was more for sound than heat. It's located more over the snout of the supercharger than the intake manifold. I think it's a rubbery material too, not a heat-shieldy one, or at least that is what I remember being told.

Are we talking about the engine cover or the heat shield

Not to step on anyone's toes but I think we are all talking about the pic listed as the title to this thread. Seems to clip under the hood and above the supercharger.

I too removed my engine cover and was thinking of adding the SVR piece that attaches to the underside of the hood. If you measure the location of the SVR piece as seen in that photo, it centers over the throttle body, not over the intake manifold. I contend it's not a heat shield.

You beat my last message by three minutes, so I'm only seeing it now. To clarify my position:

The standard hood has cutouts for the clips. Measure from the back of the hood to the rear edge of where the insulator would clip in place, then measure from the back of the engine compartment to where it would be with the hood closed. It's not where I would put a heat shield. It's over the throttle body and supercharger snout, not the compressor portion of the supercharger, which is under the intake manifold where the heat exchangers are.
