Do you have a link for the original listing where you bought the unit?
The size discrepancy suggest that is not even the correct unit for the f-type.
Also you are not going to damage the Oem system by just unplugging. Make sure everting is pushed/connected in gently but firmly and locked in. It is possible to bend pins in the connector if you are rough so check these as well

 

I don’t remember a whole lot of details but the supplied back plate/cover was very similar to the og style and fittment was perfect.

My unit is also different in that a new screen with bezel was included, can’t tell if your has that.

The pic also looks like it was made for a Range Rover model, but I’m not entirely sure, just a faint image of it when i did the research.

And even if it was made for a Range Rover, it should technically still power up at least when power is supplied, i believe the power is supplied by the og screen internals, nothing special about it, plug until you hear a click.

 

I'll check all the pin connections for any bends, but all connectors slid in very easily and did "click" into place. The box I recieved was labled "F TYPE 13 - 19 and the screen did have the surround attached

Happy Day! I was able to get my original screen working again. I have no idea what happened, but I disassembled everything to inspect and then reassembled. While my unit was apart , I tried one more time to fit the new screen because I what I was told was " I assure you it will fit". Nope. Just waiting on return info now. (fingers crossed)
