F-Type V6 value of money to other higher end preowned sports cars
Ok, I have been doing extensive research on this. I looked at preowned exotics like the Aston Martin Vantage, Ferrari and Audi R8. I also considered the Nissan GTR at one point. Let's face it - for what they cost brand new you can get an older preowned relatively cheap these days. I've already owned a BMW M3, 6 Series and a Mercedes SL500 and although Germans make a fantastic product I'm really kind of bored of them right now. In considering my next sports car (after my lease is up on my Grand Cherokee next year) I am almost certain the F-Type V6 will be it. I am not a speed demon and the V6 Supercharge suits me just fine and I'm very glad this car comes with that option. I say this because in my research one can literally buy a new or even slightly preowned F Type V6 fully loaded for about the same price as a preowned Aston, Ferrari, GT-R or Maserati. I believe the looks of the F Type are far superior to any of those just mentioned and the body styles are looking quite dated. Ok, maybe not the Aston Martin Vantage which is still a head turner but still, it's a ten year old body.
So without being biased my verdict is definitely the introductory F-Type V6. A relatively new car to the market, looks great on the road for the value. I almost pulled the trigger on a 2006 AM Vantage last month and glad I came to my senses at the 11th hour. A ten year old automobile for the same price as a new F-Type V6 -- with a warranty by the way! What do you all think? Hell - Might as well buy a preowned F Type and have the best of both worlds!

Do the best of both worlds and buy a used F-Type.
I, for one, have always bought my toys used. I'll take a classier car over new car every time. I can afford new, so maybe I'm just cheap, but I've never lost money on a classic. That won't hold up on the F-Type, but I did save 30% and got a car with less than 10k miles on it.

New vs used is a personal choice. I'm more of a "new" guy because I don't like dealing with maintenance, rattles, etc. With new you have the warranty, dealer service, etc. But of course you get better deals/values on used cars since the big depreciation has already occurred. Just whether you want to deal with potential issues after you buy a used car. Also whether you want to drive an old design. E.g., a 2012 911 (old body style) vs 2013 911 (new body style). The old body style you can get great deals on, but of course it's the older body style. I've looked at used cars before (namely the AMG SLS) but end of day I just don't want that nagging feeling of dealing with mechanic issues after I buy it.

That's also an option, just depends on your preference/wallet. The newer the used car, the more warranties included (CPO or otherwise), the less savings. If you're saving say 10% or 15% on a CPO car, maybe it's not worth it and you rather get that new car smell. But if the savings is 30+%, then maybe you can live without the new car smell. Again, just personal choice.

I bought a CERTIFIED 2015 F-type R with 800 miles on it and only 6 months into ownership. So I paid $85k for basically a brand new FTR with 5.5yrs / 100k warranty. This is how I buy all my high end sports cars. You save $25K and get way more warranty. I wouldnt buy a car any other way.

Only because it is "pre-owned," and not classified as a new, unregistered vehicle. It's an effective marketing tool to incentivize people to purchase such vehicles without worry because they throw in extra warranty.
I've purchased many such cars and had reasonably good luck. However, I've also had a couple that were absolute lemons. I purchased a CPO '02 745i that was the haunted car from hell, and I suspect it had been lemon-lawed by the first owner.

They came back with $800 off the $86k selling price, but I would have to pay $2k for certified and $1895 for maintenance. I'm waiting to hear back what the maintenance includes.
Checking out pre-owned Type R, I see Dealer Retail anywhere from $77523-Average; $81800-Clean; and $83688 Outstanding. What would be a fair price?

Re: the maintenance, you are probably right, but it could be a potential advantage when I sell--assuming it's transferable.
As for the CPO, please tell me it is more than just the powertrian. I thought it was 2yr/100k more of bumper-to-bumper, no?
And what's a fair price?

The numbers you quote for pre-owned cars above are probably assuming average mileage of approximately 10K. I'd say $86K is a fair price for an R w/ 1200 miles. You might be able to negotiate a little lower, but you're near the floor.
And yes, I think you're right CPO get's you a 2-year extension of the warranty or 100K miles, whichever comes first.
