This is the exact reason Rica Tuning strongly recommended I not install a pulley on the V6 cars. They had heard of engine failures causing the cars to catch fire. I remember when the V6 was first launched we had a stop sale for a few days because of a possible engine issue with the connecting rod bearings. It was never announced to the public which surprised me at the time. The stop sale was lifted after a couple of days & the story was there was no issue. Something to the effect the issue was only under extreme conditions which could never happen in real world conditions.

This type of info is the primary reason I participate in car forums. I like the sharing of useful information within a common interest group, and this is exactly the type of info I want to hear. It's worth wading through all the other fluff to stay informed about potentially important stuff.
It's way too early to be particularly concerned, but if a trend like grenading and/or combusting V6 engines were to develop, it's going to influence my decision as to whether this car stays with me beyond the warranty period. It's always been significant to me that even the base V6 makes more HP per liter than the V8R. The V6S is pushing it way out there, and at the same HP/liter ratio would be making 633HP in the V8.

The torque generated by each cylinder is more significant in terms of evaluating engine stress than is hp/displacement. The R is generating 11% more torque per cylinder than is the S and 8% more hp/cyl. Given the similarity in engine components, the V6S generating 412 hp and 380 lb.-ft. shouldn't be any more prone to grenading than a stock V8. If a design flaw crept into the equation when they hacked out the extra 2 cylinders, that is a totally different matter.

The V8's cylinders are 25% bigger, yet they only make 11% more torque & 8% more hp.

I read through some of the German forums (where Mr Sandmann linked back to this thread).
A lot of the discussion seems to talk about;
- Very first production cars of 2013/2014
- Ex-dealer demonstrator vehicles
- Hire cars
being the ones where the engine popped, and some caught fire.
There also is a lot of talk about "break in" period, that those kind of vehicles got a thrashing without being "broken in" properly.
Sandmann; du und die anderer Deutscher F-Type besitzern kennt viele mehr von dieses thema als die Americaner. Bitte dem informieren, nicht nür schockieren...

If the failure is compromising integrity of the engine (note the massive oil puddle) it's not being caused by a piston failure, but by a point load failure of a connecting rod that launches through the oil pan. My understanding is the rods on the 8 and 6 are identical. If not...
