Filling fuel tank

I took my new-to-me F to the gas station for the first time today. The pump started clicking off after about 6 gals. I knew it should take more, 'cause the gauge was near the bottom, but I didn't want to risk having fuel gush out at me.
After driving away, I saw the gauge read about 1/2 tank.
I had the pump handle at about 6 o'clock.
Any special tricks to get the F to take fuel?
Thanx!

Yes. Easy. Do not push the nozzle all the way into the filler pipe. If you withdraw it an inch or so you will have no trouble filling it. Jaguar did alter the filler unit for this issue but try the method just described.
2 suggestions: make sure that you use a "top tier" premium gasoline, and do not let the fuel level fall much below 1/4 tank. The prime cause of fuel pump failure in modern cars with in-tank pumps is repeatedly running the tank to near empty.

You CAN pull the shroud back by hand and the pump will operate. But you need to keep holding it.

Our local Costco just installed new pump nozzles. These REQUIRE the spout to be inserted all the way in, enough so that the plastic shroud/fume-shield activates a switch. The pump will not operate unless the shroud actuates the switch.

You might regret using cheap gas in the long run....and take note of that flange on the open fuel door hinge - it is designed to hold the cap just as you have been told.

Sparky, you are excused!!
But no need to get so excited!!
No troll here.
Neither am I buying cheap gas, just filling at the best priced pumps.
Price for premium here varies by more than 50 cents/gallon.
Also, this place is full service.
So I need to show the pump guy where to place the cap correctly, now that i have been so well schooled!
The photos helped. Thanks, but.I did not expect my original comment to elicit such a response!!
