Finally got it done

I sold my XF almost a year ago and went on probably the most labored car search ever. After many months, including brief flirtations with the idea of a Lexus LC 500, Lotus Evora 400 or Maserati GranTurismo, I finally bought a still new 2018 F Type R coupe (santorini black) in Seattle and drove it home to LA. I think it was one of two that were still new in the whole country. On the long shake out drive home only two small issues arose, a slight rattle out of the passenger seat belt hole and a slight separation of the carpet on the passenger side where it connects with the center console. Maybe I've spent too much time reading threads here but the OEM Pirellis seem slick, some day I'll go to MPSS's.
I've already pulled the plug in the trunk disabling the auto stop/start. I have an appointment to have a ceramic coat put on, I'll tint the windows and the only other thing I plan on doing is putting a very tiny british flag sticker somewhere on the back for a little bit of color.
My only questions are;
1. Does a battery tender have to be a Jaguar model or can I buy from CTEK? and
2. Do people use this In Control app? I'm having trouble setting it up. Thanks

Congrats on the new car! it's a jaguar so get used to little issues, but as long as your under warranty and your local jag dealership is decent you should be fine. I've seen a lot of people use the Ctek, but if you are driving it everyday or every other day I don't think its necessary. I drive mine everyday so its never been on a tender. I definitely recommend getting some PPF put on the front, mine loves to get rock chips and being a metallic color its not easy to match and having a painted car is always a value killer. If my front bumper wasn't already painted I would do an expell wrap. Santorini black is a great color, what interior choice did you go with? Make sure to post some photos before your attacked.

Good for you, I also took a long time
to buy mine but patience pays off. The car is a blast and getting your preferred color and options makes it even more enjoyable. Very smart mentioning Michelin’s right away - never fear though; the michelin representatives will still reply to emphasize how much better they will be.

The battery tender does not have to be a Jaguar model or a CTEK, any decent quality 7 or 8 phase tender will work perfectly OK.
It's just that CTEK is the most popular brand among forum members and has a good reputation.
And AFAIK the Jag branded one is a CTEK anyway but you pay double for the Jag badge!

For the InControl app, your dealer should have helped you get that set up. You create an account and then they associate the vehicle to your account. At least that was my experience with both the XF and FType. I use the app mostly for journey info, although remote start came in handy a few times for the XF (no remote start on the MT FType or I would use it there as well).
If you’re having trouble with it, I would contact your sales rep. I’m surprised they didn’t make sure you were set before you drove off. Unless I misunderstood the trouble you are having with it...
Regardless, congratulations and enjoy!

To the OP:
My dealer did not set up connectivity for my new 2018 either but due to the distance involved in taking the car back to them I elected to reach out to the Jaguar at 1-800 4jaguar. I was graciously walked through the process (which requires your vehicle to be outside and running). Probably took 5-10 minutes if I remember correctly.
The In Control App does provide for remote start, contrary to what I think I read in another post.
Another thing, if you wish to avail yourself of the Route Planner feature, that is a separate registration process.
This all requires that the SIM card be installed in the console cubby.

I use CTEK with indicator panel installed on driver's side of trunk interior. I'll attach picture of that as well. Functions great.
I don't use the app but my wife does. Dealership set it up for us as part of purchase process.
