First time Jag owner - SE Michigan
Hello All. . After much lurking and researching decided to join the forums since I just purchased a 16 F-Type S. I have been driving it every chance I get.
Also, not sure if anyone here is familiar with the Jag dealers around the metro Detroit area and can chime in on which one provides the better service. There are 3 Jag dealers in the area and I want to take it for an oil change soon.

Congratulations and welcome! Post a photo of your car here and/or in the photo thread so we can see that cat. Also, you can get better responses if you post your year and model, any mods or options in your signature line. You can access this through the User Control Panel (User CP). You can find that at the top of the forum banner along the black line graphic stripe on the far left. Then go to "Edit Signature". Look forward to your participation.

Hi,
I also live in SE Michigan.
I have been looking at getting an F-Type but worry about damage caused by the roads here.
Sure there are roads where you know have really bad pot holes. But driving along roads that you dont frequent, and finding a barrier of 8" deep pot holes worries the heck out of me.
How are you finding the day to day driving around here? And any damage concerns or casualties so far?

So far so good. It's like you said. 90% of the roads I drive on, I am familiar with so I usually know where the bad spots are to avoid. Plus it helps that most of the highways I drive on have been repaved recently.
If I find myself in unfamiliar territory I just tread cautiously, so no open throttle unless I have another cars to use as guides and follow their line, always giving myself ample time to react. I had 2 previous cars with 19s before and I only hit medium size pothole once, no damage to wheel but did have to get it rebalanced. Some neighborhoods I do avoid totally when in the F-Type though if there is no alternate route or just take another car

I just to/from Chicago - the roads while mostly fine, every now and then had HUGE and DEEP potholes. thats what worries me, the ones that spring up on you and then its too late (or not possible to avoid).
Not just worried about blowing a tire, or damaging the rim. but undercarriage damage.
MI roads are the worst, hence my interest to hear how you are all experiencing them and thoughts, suggestions, advise you have from real day to day experience.

I Got oil change and brake fluid change. (No overfill on oil ) Clean bill of health and no recommendations at the moment.
Waiting area is a little unimpressive compared to other luxury auto dealerships I have visited.

Alternatively you could be like the Ohio Turnpike and have one lane permanently closed for road works, except all the money collected in tolls was spent on buying hundreds of miles' worth of traffic cones so there's no actual work ever being done.

We were in Greektown for a wedding.
Went to the Jag dealer north of there. I desperately wanted to drive a manual. The salesmen said he had a used one. We immediately drove there. About 20 minutes.
When I got there the salesclown informed me he did not know it was sold the day before and I could not drive it. Period.
I was not pleased. Bought one a week later in Cincinnati.
He could have called me back on the phone.
Local Jag dealer(Dayton) thought I was not serious in buying an f type. . Made no effort to find me one. Went there twice. Did not believe me to be a customer. I guess driving there in a 63 MG is a poor mans car.
Dealer in Cinci was different. Spent an hour riding around with me.
3 of the 4 dealers I talked to were snooty. Had on my Levis not designer jeans.

It’s a funny world.
the day I bought the Jag my son convinced me I should drive the corvette.
I called the dealer I bought a Tahoe from years ago and made an appointment to drive a plain Jane manual. I was to be there at ten. Made an appointment with the sales manager. Told him Likely I was buying today. He assigned a sales person to me.
had my jeans on again and a $60 golf shirt.
when I got there the salesman informed me their Corvette drivers never test drive the cars. The car was still on the showroom floor. They had nothing drivable.
the conversation with the sales manager that evening was funny. Asked me how I liked driving the car. He offered to give me the deposit back from the Jag if I was there the next morning.
Frankly the legroom in the f type is better. And, I am 5’9”. I like my legs pretty straight.
