dynamic S will not shift for you so i'd prob not put it in sport and just everything dynamic.
You can also press the traction button once to enter sport traction mode.
Shannonville was LOTS of fun in the f type, cayuga just eats your brakes and tires. Mosport is very nice especially if you have the R. I was able to pull ahead on a z06 on shannonville with my S AWD so you can have some fun there.
What he said. Put the Trany in S mode, but don't touch the paddles. It takes a lot of skill and practice to shift better than the car will itself in S mode.
This spring I picked up a 2016 Ftype R AWD. I have so far been able to get it out once on a local track (Mosport).
I am planning to head to Shannonville in late September to have a go at the drag strip.
What is my best course of action for my first time out? Should I leave it in Dynamic+S and let the computer do the work?
Do I just put the throttle to the floor at the light?
What should I be doing with tire pressure?
Any tips/advise would be appreciated!
I just got back from Capital Raceway in MD two weeks ago, 2016 R Vert. PS4S tires. I had limited runs due to crowds so I never got to try manual paddle shifts. I did this: DSC COMPLETELY off. Go around water, no burnout, Dynamic. S. Don’t shift, let computer do it. It was my first time ever, 11.901, 122.58 trap speed. At below 13 seconds you needed a helmet I think. Left lane. 2016 R Vert. Roof up. Dynamic. S. Computer shifted. DSC Completely OFF. NO BURNOUT. Terrible reaction time...
below 11.5 here a fireproof suit.
I noticed you said "Left lane. 2016 R Vert. Roof up. Dynamic. S. Computer shifted. DSC Completely OFF. NO BURNOUT. Terrible reaction time... below 11.5 here a fireproof suit.". Here, it's not just the suit but the roll bar (4 point minimum) which becomes a roll cage at 10.50 IIRC. No stock cars allowed to test and tune faster than the 11.50 limit

Triggered some good memories of my racing days, once at Capitol Raceway, where I ran my '67 GTO (400/375). It would likely have been in 1968 and I remember being totally embarrassed running in the warm-ups when I got waxed by a Pontiac station wagon running in CSA. Not until I found out it was a trailered-in national record holder was my ego somewhat soothed, but I did make it to the finals where I got edged out for the first place trophy by an Olds 442 in a race so close I couldn't really tell who won until I got back to the pits.
Funny thing is my base F-Type would easily beat that old muscle car in its heyday in every conceivable show down, 0-60, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, top speed--and especially braking!
Thanks for the memory jog. Aquasco, Summerduck, Manassas and probably some I can't remember were also places I frequented.
I believe it automatically kicks down to 1st so quickly when you floor it from a stand still that you won't even notice it happened.
I think you will find it is the opposite. It actually starts in 1st gear but changes to 2nd so quickly you don't notice unless you are using a large throttle angle.
You can confirm this by using SDD to monitor the current gear. On my 5 litre XKR it drops to and pulls away in first in D every time.
I think people get confused because in manual mode the gearbox will still automatically drop down through the gears as you come to a halt but only as far as 2nd.

Doesn't work that way on my F-Type which definitely starts in 2nd gear when in Drive (in both Normal and Dynamic modes).
Easy to test - come to a stop and pull the left paddle and it moves from 2nd gear to 1st gear.
At take off if I mash the throttle it kicks back to first gear.
Your XKR has a different gearbox - ZF 6HP28 - while the F-Type uses the ZF 8HP70, maybe that explains the difference.
Yesterday our 1st ever Drag race for my friend and I.
Temp 80F, both no mods, both Dynamic S.
11.7s Stock 2018 V8R AWD 93 octane, ESC OFF, all seasons tires
12.4s Stock 2015 V6S RWD 91 octane, ESC ON, summer tires. Launch Control Active.
i can’t believe we pulled those times considering it was our first time ever at the Drag strip. I’ve never seen a V6S stock get into the low 12s. Next time I’ll try 93 octane I was running 87 and filled with 93 prior, blended = 91.

I think it’s the same here too on roll-cage etc. I figured I wouldn’t hit 11.5 first time there and was happy to leave if I did. They didn’t think I was going to be that fast checking in. I heard a corvette owing family was watching and thought I was there as a sleeper trying to troll people for money. I never got next to anyone close unfortunately. A GTi and a Chevy SS, both half a track back it seemed within a couple seconds.
If the track is reasonably prepped you shouldn't have to do anything with tire pressures since you're awd. Dynamic+S and let the computer do the work. Left foot brake, right foot throttle to the floor, release brake when the last amber comes on (before the green light goes on).

The XKR and F-Type have vastly different transmissions.
