I try to be in the correct gear before turning in but of I need to shift while the wheel is turned I usually just USSR the gear lever. It's not ideal but it's quick enough for the one gear change.
Maserati too, when they are mounted on the column you need huge paddles so you can reach them when you turn the wheel. Here is a pair for Maserati.

If you are in sport it will still upshift when you hit redline in dynamic mode not as far as I know.

I am just not that far from the paddles but also all my paddle experience has been with three Jags and Porsche, they are all steering wheel mounted.

As for the 8 gears, yes they are too many for manual. most of the time you will be in 2 - 5. 7 and 8 are not full forward gears they are over drive to reduce rpm to save on fuel.

I am always in sport and manual unless I have 3 hours of highway at the same speed to go somewhere, then I put it in drive and let the automatic chose the lowest gear.

Been practicing more and getting more used to it, the hint with using the shifter instead of the paddles if not straight helped, and I like using the shifter as well. It is rewarding once you start getting it down as it makes for a more involved experiences and maximises the nice noises coming out the back.

My first experience with paddle shifters was on a Maserati GT I thought of buying a few years back. I had never used them before. About 30 seconds into the test drive the salesman "snapped" at me, that if I don't know what I'm doing just leave the car in automatic. This guy was a really arrogant, Beverly Hills Maserati by the way. Never went back there, never looked at Maserati again.

Perhaps he didn't want someone over-revving a new engine until after break-in?

From the looks of the 2016 models I've seen in dealership pics, those flappy paddles and the start button are no longer orange. Guess black is the new orange. Or whatever.

Originally, they were 'ignis' (Orange) only on the S models. (Presumably the R too.). But not the base.

To be clear, I was referring to the R models. But you may be right across the board.

You can see the "R" on the steering wheel. Paddles appear silver to me.

Yeah. Silver. Not gold anymore. And the start button not gold anymore. Point is, gold is gone. Do we agree?

Thank god, the gold color paddles sucked. I think silver was an option in 2015 at extra cost on the R.

I love them - they draw your eyes to them.

And they're Ignus Orange!

Perhaps they made the change because of issues that have been reported here with the Ignus orange. Several posters have reported the coating chipping off over time, and they aren't Ignus orange underneath.

I quite like the it is Orange, but mine haven't started peeling yet, I might not be so enamoured with them if they peel.
