Forum consensus on exhaust note between years.

They removed the electric vacuum pump for AE before MY17, so yours gets vacuum from the engine (somehow.) I would think there'd be a fuse for the vacuum solenoid which controls the exhaust valves, but don't recall anyone mentioning that for the later cars. (Though pops & crackles are somewhat separate from the exhaust valve operation.) K309 was the software update that gave some people major issues with loss of pops & crackles, though I haven't heard it mentioned in a few years. My car got K309b, and I never noticed a difference. But another member completely lost the pops and crackles, and got a VAP tune just to get them back.

On the V6 the valves are inboard of the back box, so can't be seen internally by looking down the pipes. The V8 valves are after the back box so are visible down the pipes, as others have said.

Ok, so got the F out, in dynamic mode. Manual transmission, so AE switch is also on. Some good exhaust resonance, but no pops, crackles, etc. Had it up and a bit past 4000rpm, also downshifts and lifts. Switched off AE and think I could hear the difference (from inside the car), still no crackles/pops. Put AE back on and went home. Parked, took Fob and went inside for a bit. Came out with Spouse to check if he could hear any difference. Started the car, it was still in Dynamic and AE switch on as well. Drove up road, past 3000rpm, good resonance, no crackle/pop. Second trial, Dynamic still on, AE off. Up the road. Spouse noticed less exhaust sound. I'm still going to take the car to the dealer, just to make sure, under warranty, that there aren't any functional issues with the exhaust. In all honesty, if it is all good with the exception of not having the pops & crackles, I'm OK with that. So not sure if the loss of the Rice Krispies is/was due to a software update or not. Will know after Wednesday, this week.

Exhaust note
HI and thank you for your question. It's a 2017 6 cylinder Premium with manual transmission. I have switches for both the dynamic mode and the active exhaust. I got the car in the fall of 2020 with about 24k miles on it. When I went to test drive it for the first time, all the noise was there at startup and I had to switch it off so I could listen for any untoward noises. When I returned a week later for purchase, the popsNcrackles were much subdued. I get a bit of it after a high shift rev.. 4000, mostly on downshifts. I never did find out exactly why it changed, but my guess is a software update that the selling dealer did on it once I committed to the purchase. Subsequently had JLR dealer check for any exhaust valve issues (while still under warranty) and there were none. I'm OK with less noise, as it is really backfire (??) and unburned gas. With about 40K miles on him now, he runs really well and I get my thrills going up on-ramps and opening him up. I'll leave the Rice Krispies to others, along with burnouts.

PLEASE DON'T LAUGH.....
Considered trading my white 2021 First Edition P300 - Loaded MSRP = $80,725 in on a 2024 P450 Firense red.
I WAS SEROIUS ABOUT DOING THIS...
Here's the thread:
HELP - 2021 P300 owner test drove a 2024 450 yesterday - - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Drove the 450 at the dealership.
Loved the torque and the Dynamic suspension.
Loved the sound at idle
Was totally surprised that my lil 2 liter with the Ragazzon exhaust actually sounds better with your foot into it than the P450
The torque on the 450 was awesome, but winding up the P300 or pushing it in "S" mode.......... the power, 2WD fun, Pops, Bamgs and Ragazzon exhaust makes it a pure joy to drive.
Had the P300 at TAIL OF THE DRAGON. (photos below)
I wonder which car would have handled better on that run..
I think JLR is bowing to the wrong team with their corporate decisions.
That 2024 450 should have driven, and sounded better than it did.
BEST !

I was in D Dynamic at the start, then shifted to "S" mode
There was a change, but very subtle.
To be fair, I didn't take it out on the Interstate, where I assume she would show her true colors.
While the P300 is certainly no Corvette killer, she's a damned surprisingly fun ride.
Let's see where we can get to on my trade before I do a second test drive with fuse #15 out.
