Sitting next to the fastest McLaren 720s in North America really makes you want to buy a VAP pulley and tune

Everything is starting to come in for the new changes this month:

OEM Project 7 Grill Delete
GT Carbon Rear Diffuser
GT Carbon Wing
OEM Side Sills

All parts will be wrapped black to keep the car to the OEM+ "GT3" design. Can't wait to start the install!

Thanks!

OEM side sills came in today and to my surprise they are already pre painted black. That works! Also received the OEM reverse light brackets to run the OEM lights. All parts are here now and ready to go on.

OEM Side Sills Installed

Well after searching for a takeoff set of the wider year 16+ side sills (also known as the finisher panel) I ended up just buying the year 14-15 sills that came repainted black from Jaguar. We spent a good 5 hours last night installing them the correct way. A lot of you were asking about the process on other threads and what all has to come off in order to install or remove ANY side sills so hopefully this helps!

1. Remove the interior door lining trim and remove the screws
2. Remove the aluminum Jaguar plates (THIS IS THE HARDEST PART DUE TO 3 LAYERS OF DOUBLE SIDED TAPE) Take your time and they will slowly lift up!
3. Remove the rest of the screws and plastic clips
4. There is a zip tie holding the back of the rocker panel on the car (cut it and leave it off)
5. Remove the 1 wheel well front bolt and the 2 rear wheel well bolts
6. Remove all of the retaining clips holding the rocker panel on from the bottom
7. Drill out the 2 rivets holding the plastic wind/debris deflector to the rocker
8. Remove the rocker panel
9. Drill out the required holes on the bottom of the rocker panel to install the new side sills
10. Use double sided tape across the inner portion of the side sill
11. Mate the new side sills to the rocker panel
12. Slowly install all of the new bolts and peel the back of the double sided tape off before completely tightening down all of those bolts
13. Reinstall rocker and side sills to car
14. Reverse order the install process
15. Drink a beer!

Great looking ride! I noticed you started out with 20" Turbine wheels before your upgrades. I just bought a 2014 V6 S and I am looking to put my hands on a set, if you still have them laying around.

My mistake, looks like those were the 18" Vela's on closer inspection.

New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires Installed

I decided to keep these wheels for a bit longer and I was in need for a new set of tires so I decided to upgrade from the Super Sports. I’ve been running MPSS’s on all of my cars for over 5 years now and love them but from the reviews everyone says the 4S’s are even better. I went with the same 255/35 and 295/30 sizes since they fit the car well. I look forward to testing them out on the track soon!

Don't expect much of an upgrade. They are the equivalent of <1% better than their replacements in most metrics. The PSS was so good already its very difficult to improve without massive compromise.

Did you make the same switch?

Personally I have not; I’m still rocking the **** Pirellis. However, my company partners with Michelin as well as many of the other major tire companies and has a complete matrix of performance and subjective test data on the segment that I have access to. The PSS and PS4S performance is almost identical; the PS4S has a tiny advantage in dry corners because they were able to improve heat transfer and the way the tread flexes as weight transfers, but otherwise there isn’t much of a difference. Longitudinal grip is the same, wet grip is pretty much the same. Really the PS4S is just a replacement for the PSS, slightly improved but in reality nothing you’d ever notice.

I am amazed you were able to remove these without damaging them. My body shopped worked hard on trying to remove it without bending it, but the 3M tape was strong and would not let go. Ended up just buying brand new plates. I am jealous you completed this without destroying the plates.

I read your thread as well as all of the other threads on this subject for weeks and it helped prepare us but with A LOT of time and patience we made it happen. Hopefully my write up will help instill confidence in others to tackle the project themselves in the future.

I wonder, would it help to remove the tread plates by heating them up a bit and thereby softening the 3M tape adhesive? This works for such things as removing glued on badges on the bodywork, so why not with the tread plates? I would try a hair dryer first before resorting to a heat gun which could melt/damage the surrounding vinyl/plastic.

You are correct! We used a blowtorch to lightly go over the top and help loosen the adhesive. I forgot to mention that in the write up.
