Here's my plan::
1. Tabs will go down since the fat part of the guard is closer to the tabs.
2. The OEM tape (which will be removed) appears to be the 3M VHB #5952 Double-Sided Mounting Acrylic Foam Tape Adhesive (3/8" or 9mm). The 3/8" cannot be found so I have opted for the 5/16" (8mm).
3. I will measure the fender lip overhang at each of the insets to determine how much, if any, each of them needs to be individually notched.
4 . I'll start whittling on those guards tomorrow, but final installation will have to wait until I get the tape next week.
Nothing needs to be notched. Tabs cut them off, then doesn't matter which way you install them. There is not one way that gives you more protection.
Took off all factory tape that was on it and reused new 3m tape the whole length of the guard but maybe a half inch or so at top and bottom.
I have a couple thousand miles on them now and the clips stay on beautifully without issue.
The hardest part of the install is getting the guard to sit flush against the paint without any gap. I had to take them off a couple times to get zero gap. I am super ocd though!

I’ll be heating the tape and fender edge before I install to allow some repositioning. That may ensure a tight fit.

Just a note for you on 3M Molding tape. It is not traditional adhesive, but rather has a cellulose structure that is PRESSURE activated. Just wanted you to be aware....Not that you cannot reposition it, but pressure is what will bond it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll play with the tape and a heat gun On something else first to see if my proposed strategy has any merit.

There is no need to heat the tape. Just when your installing put a little muscle into it when fitting them and they conform very well with no gaps.
Once I stopped being a bitch about it they went on super clean.
All lies, just buying time to actually do the project or divert attention away from the thread! Very disappointing Lance.
To all that did this, have you noticed a difference in debris on the side of the car or is more of aesthetic change to match the rear?
After changing the offsets and going with the wider tire it was obvious that the sides of the car were going to take a beating. The additional width of the splash guards will definitely help reduce the amount of road debris thrown up on the sides. The aesthetics are very pleasing to me as well.
A big thanks to Therock88 for posting this up.
Do you know how to tell if the modification was a success?
Months later after install, I don’t even notice the spats on my car as I walk by it, like it was factory installed all along and looking fabulous! Loved the spats on my XKR and now on my F.
