Fuel Pump
Hi one 'n all
Has anybody out there had a situation where the car started to splutter and cut out - this was ay circa 30,000 miles and I've had the car from 17,000 miles. When the garage (2,000 miles / 7 months ago) took it in, first it was change the oil and small of fuel in the oil, then they changed the injectors, then the pumps (for non-OEM Pierburg Pumps) and after a big chunk of my daughters inheritance, the car was 'good to go'. Now, 2,000 miles later - the oil all dumped and I had her recovered back to the garage. I was informed that the pump had been forced out (Pump 2 - the front one) and the flanged had snapped. Replacement pump back in, 40 miles later, oil dumped, flanged bowed where pump was being forced out (not snapped, guess I caught it early!!). Now the garage is left scratching it's head. Anyone had something similar!? TIA

Iam having trouble understanding your description of the problem: what do you mean by “the oil all dumped” and “the pump had been forced out” and “the flange bowed”?
Can you please clarify so that we understand what has happened?

Pretty sure he is talking mainly about the twin high pressure fuel pumps, and that the front pump of the two (pump #1 I think but it might be pump #2!) had snapped off at the mounting flange. Then after replacing that pump the mounting flange bowed out and leaked engine oil out again. Not entirely sure what that has to do with dumping engine oil although I guess the pump is lubed by engine oil which would gush out if the pump snaps off and/or the mounting flange is bent/bowed.

I recently watched an I Do Cars video of a 3.0 Jaguar engine teardown. The two fuel pumps are driven by chain driven cams on one side of the oil pump. So if a fuel pump flange fails the contents of the oil pan would absolutely leak out. I would guess that the fuel pump outlet line of the pump with the failed flange is plugged and the fuel pump hydrolocks and is forced out of the block by the fuel pump actuating cam. My wild guess.
