I really hope they don't move forward with the 4 cylinder model, unless it's for very specific weird markets like Singapore.
That is simply too much brand dilution.

Agreed. I thought it would've been better for the V8 and V6 to be a bit more visually distinct from each other as well.

Agreed. It wouldn't have been that hard to style the two more differently.

I found it interesting that the preproduction V8 convertibles had a V8 label on the back, which they got rid of for the production models.

If it comes it will come to the US. The latest EPA report on auto manufacturers fuel economy (greenhouse gas emissions) Jaguar/Rover was the only OEM not to have credits to carry forward to cover their low fuel economy in future years. They will need to sell a number of higher fuel economy cars by the end of 2015 or pay their competitors for credits.

The real problem is the F type is heavy and they are not getting enough power out of their turbo 4. Ford will have over 300hp from their 2.3 turbo while Jaguar is only offering a 240hp 2.0T in their cars. If they could have gotten the car a couple of 100 ponds lighter and gotten 300 hp from the four cylinder performance would be acceptable.

Do you have a link to the EPA report?
It'd be interesting to look at.

Makes sense that Jag would want to meet its carbon credit obligations, but choosing the F-Type as the model to do that with seems bass ackwards to me. Why do that with a sports car when it could focus on a fuel efficient sedan instead like the XE

The report is here

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/climate/documents/420r14011.pdf

Not easy reading, the regulations are written to allow maximum trading (both internal and external) while keeping pressure on improving fuel economy. Jaguar is taking an alternative certification path that somewhat limits trading but buys time at the beginning (before 2016) in exchange for higher standards later (2016 -2021).

Yes the XE will be the primary method Jag will use to meet the higher fuel economy standards but I'd like to see lighter high fuel economy vehicles across the board.
