Default getting an odd sound with throttle input

Car has 6500 miles on it. I can't say that I recall hearing any such noise before maybe a month ago, but now there is a bit of high pitched whining (do not confuse for a supercharger sound) only when under throttle input. This occurs even with light feathering of the throttle when coasting at speed on the highway. The noise rapidly tapers off when the throttle is released. I haven't noticed any change in performance of the car whatsoever. The noise is a bit more pronounced when the engine is cold, but it persists for my 15 mile drive to work.

Any ideas what this might be?

I have something similar, it goes away after about 30 minutes of driving. We isolated the noise to the SC belt. It doesn't bother me enough to change out the belt, though I have a more supple belt on hand if it gets worse.

Well that's reassuring that it's not just me. Is it a fault in the belt? I.e. Might it fail?

Belt won't fail, but it can be annoying. A new belt would probably resolve the issue. It's never an issue when it;s warm outside.

I think I just read a Bulletin on this, let me see if I can find it again.

SITUATION:

A 'humming' noise may be evident from the engine when the engine is idling.

CAUSE:

This may be caused by dust and/or water ingress to the accessory drive belt idler pulley bearing.

ACTION:

Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction below.

My noise doesn't sound like a humming..more like a loose fan belt (but none of the belts are loose). Noise is not coming from the SC snout. Used a stethoscope to confirm that.

Someone mentioned a noise comparable to hearing cicadas or locusts from a distance. That's an apt descriptor for what I hear.

Are you sure it's coming from the engine bay? My active exhaust makes a squeaking noise, and the compressor for it makes a vibrating noise.

I too have been getting this for quite some time On my XE (see XE build at bottom) Same V6 engine as F-Type. Cicadas is what describes it best. Is it indeed the belt? It's apparent with acceleration starting at around 3K RPM, It does not change in pitch with revs, just intensity. I'd love to find out what this is. Here is a link to a couple of accelerations..high pitched cicada sound

A little too much background noise for me to hear anything abnormal. Incidentally we have the same dash cam!

Hard to isolate the frequency with cam audio. It's at the high end of the spectrum. Sometimes I wonder if it's the belt tensioner bouncing around on the belt? I had a blackvue dash cam on my other car....I think I like the Street Guardian much better. great video quality and low profile:-)

+1. All I hear is the typical supercharger whine.

I suspect that is the case. For me it only occurs when it's cold and there's moisture in the air.

Air leak perhaps?

Can't tell. If it starts to bother me too much I'll swap the belt to see how that affects it.
