Think about it--why would Jaguar spend the engineering R+D money needed to add new features to a model in its last production year? They'd never get a return on the engineering and tooling investment. Most manufactures that do a limited edition for a final model year do cosmetic things, since those are cheap. Sometimes you can realize a small bump in HP still left to be coaxed out of the power train software without any hardware redesign so the marketing department can extol the virtues of the limited edition. Unfortunately, these special edition tweaks are truly cosmetic only. Still a great way to ride off into the sunset though..........
simple answer is they have left over parts they now need to get rid of.

The F type is a great car that had a really nice run and will be held in MUCH higher regard in years to come. It's sort of like sports superstar who retires at his/her peak.

In the same light, it would have probably made sense if the Corvette was retired late 60's and the 911 in '98 when Porsche went to automation and the water cooled engine. I was fortunate to have a '98 C2S and it is hardly recognizable compared to what the 911 has now become. You can even make a very strong case that the '89 3.2 Carrera should have been the end.

We are the fortunate few who will get to enjoy these wonderful cars well into the future, so that's not such a bad thing.

The move from "current" is definitely an astute existential point that definitely drives it home, pun intended.

And you are correct about us collectively being allowed to be extremely excited that we fell into this at the end of ice, and getting to drive this into a future of silence.

One thing someone had mentioned somewhere else is just how loud these cars will become quickly over time because we are at the threshold point of adoption of the evs. And whether you're need a car or are an environmentalist, that adoption makes sense right now because of the freaking gas prices especially in california.

Right now cars without ice engines make some sounds, like an angelic waterfall. The Tesla sounds awful to me. But just like BMW is experimenting with heated seats subscriptions, or Tesla locking range without paying more, when the downloadable content for car sounds becomes available to drivers, our roads are going to sound like a barnyard or like 1980s science fiction films.

People with cars that sound like cows or a TIE fighter from Star wars. LOL
