Yep, that should work for a coupe but as noted here and elsewhere while it will "work" for a 'vert to get you mobile you won't be able to fit the punctured/busted wheel and tyre combo in the trunk. If you are on your lonesome then the busted wheel/tyre combo will fit on the passenger seat and maybe just maybe if you have a small passenger (e.g. a kid) they could carry the busted combo on their lap (but I wouldn't want to be that passenger!).

Re: convertible. Yes, it looks like a wheel would fit in the passenger seat. The passenger would have to fit completely in the foot well or the trunk, the wheel doesn’t fit by much by itself. I guess you could carry a chain and padlock and lock the failed wheel to something.
