Agreed that rarity is a great feature of Jaguars. I can't remember the last time I saw another XKR--probably a few weeks ago.

The only place where F-Types don't seem to be a rarity is the dealership. My dealership has 21!!!! new F-Types in stock, including two manuals. Something tells me I'm not the only one who is having difficulty selecting an F-Type over the competition. Meanwhile the Porsche dealer only has 9 Boxster/Caymans in stock. I realize this is not apples to apples comparison, but still!

I almost bought a Boxster.....even after the base price jumped up a whopping 20% due to some basic options but then the dealer gave me a quote with another $4k on top of MSRP and I said, that's it I'm out! ...keep your Porsche. $ 95k for an entry level Porsche with 315hp? no thanks.

This link might be interesting to some in comparing the F-Type to the performance of other cars.

I'm in a 3LT base right now actually. I want to switch to the Jag because of external appearance, internal fit and finish and the exhaust note. If performance was top priority, I'd definitely stay in the Corvette range. It outperforms anything in its price point and admittedly looks great.

I just was curious about the poster's opinion on it after he tested it and compared against the others listed.

Are you sure? I have pretty much the same car and options and I am not sure LSD is electronic unless you have R-type.

LOL, the current C7 Z06 outperforms almost everything regardless of price. Look at that Laguna Seca lap time in the link and look at all the cars 3x and higher trailing behind.

I chose the F-Type for similar reasons, but I am in awe of what GM has created regardless of price. When factoring in price, it borders on unbelievable.

I have given strong thought to a z06 but I'm in a '14 stingray now and when I tested a z the only difference was the exhaust was louder and it got to 60 mph so fast the thrill was over before I knew it. The Tesla is awesome but I have some reservation about the long term solvency of Tesla as they have never made any profit (yes I understand why). Plus I think it's funny to cross shop an F type with such an amazing exhaust with a car that has no exhaust.

Having said that, I would be interested in your opinion on the M4 and Z06 just for curiosity's sake.

I'm also interested in the BMW i8 if anyone has tested one....
The M4 is a great car, but as you noted it's not great looking. I also didn't think the sound or smiles per gallon compared to the F-Type. It was still one of my favorites, but BMWs to me drive like they have no soul. It's hard to articulate what that really means, I just know that despite having a nice interior and being a great car, it wasn't that much fun. Also, given the performance delta between the 335 and the M4, I didn't think the price gap was worth it.

The Z06 is an absolute beast. Like, ridiculous beast and value for the money, but I just don't like Corvettes. The C7s are the best looking Corvettes ever IMO, but they are still so common that they don't get noticed. The Z06 is special, but to most people it looks like just another Corvette. More importantly, I hated the seating position. The hood was IN MY FACE. I felt like 60% of my viewing area was hood. I'm told that's just a Corvette thing, but I couldn't stand it. Amazing car though.

The Tesla is an amazing car and ludicrous mode is aptly named. The in-car electronics are also from another planet compared to our F-Types. I really really liked it, but it's a giant frickin' sedan and just not where I am in my life right now. I'll probably pick one up as some point to use for when I'm gonna be stuck in traffic or driving in crappy weather.

The E-Type was much the same way when it came out, wasn't it? It could outperform cars 5X the price, and was more gorgeous to boot!

Yes, it was for the most part. However, it wasn't competitive against the Shelby Cobras of the same era, that ended up winning the FIA World Championship in 1965 besting Enzo Ferrari's best efforts.

The Cobras could be purchased for about the same price as the E-Type, but they were twice the price of 60's Corvettes so they didn't sell well in the US.

I am pro-EV. When they're good. I won't make my pioneer joke again, but those owners have arrows in their backs. It's just they're typically wealthy enough that they can afford to remove them.

Consumer Reports loved them new, but they are an "Avoid" and "Don't Buy" Tesla S used, due to high unreliability ratings per Consumer Reports.

I asked the author of this report: Used Cars to Avoid Buying
http://www.consumerreports.org/used-...-avoid-buying/

And he said the Tesla Model S has an extremely high unreliability rating because:

"more issues with electrical systems, climate, suspension, body/trim/assembly, and power equip than avg new car"

source: Jon Linkov on Twitter (it isn't letting me post the twitter link, so w/o url: twitter.com/CRcarsJon/status/712387591493046272

They are also extremely expensive to repair. Repair shops need special machines and training (same metal as ours), and that's quite expensive. I was surprised how such a simple car could have so many problems.

Way too much thinking on this. Buy what you like, spend as much as you can justify, enjoy until next urge comes around. Cars reflect us whether we want them to or not. I doubt many people cross shop Vette and Jag, more likely Porsche, Audi, BMW, Merc, maybe even Aston, and Maserati. If price/value was only consideration Vette would be on every driveway.

Not a joke, and I know this is likely one place in the world this would happen.. SF Bay Area, Marin...

I left at 1p to run a few errands and a quick lunch. I was out 1.5hrs

Within 3 mins I saw a white blacktop vert F-Type, 5 minutes later a all black F-Type coupe. Before and after lunch I saw 2 XK, 3 new XJ (not all at once), and finally on my way up to my home, voila... an all white F-Type coupe. I know there's also a bright red (not salsa?) coupe around here, somewhere. It's absolutely insane.

I literally was going to start a thread "Do you wave at other F-Types" and then I forget I live in a total bubble. As a Wrangler owner, we have this "Jeep" wave thing, and I totally do it to other Jags. I don't think they notice. lol

I just bought the MT F Type. Its not blazingly fast but its everything an F type should be, difficult, twitchy, thrilling. That doesnt translate in numbers but that is fine with me, I have a BMW650 that has more refinement and HP but I will drive the Jag. Its what a sports car should be.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the group of misfits that can't embrace the modern technology of ATs. Driving a car should be a full body sport and not just limited to the fingers.

Land Rover drivers do it too.

I got a wave from an E type driver the other day, I was pretty happy with that, and yes I do wave to other F Type drivers, sadly I rarely get one back.

Between '02 and 05' MINIs would also wave at one another. Then it stopped suddenly. I always wave at another F-Type. Interestingly I've found that Defenders and FJ40s will wave back and forth at each other. Isn't that miscegeny?

I didn't know it was a "thing"......I'll pay more attention; don't want you to be sad. :-)

I have been a miscegenist for the past 40 years. It's been legal in Maryland since the late '60s
