I used CarGurus but you have to watch how you search because their database is whack. Don’t limit the choices too much, you’ll wind up overlooking some good deals. My F Type R wasn’t listed as CPO but had everything else I wanted. Called the seller and discovered it was CPO. My F Pace wasn’t listed as having Adaptive Cruise or being an S but I could see the rectangular radar on the grill and my highly optioned 35t is as near an S as I could get.
We’re looking for something with a MT to replace my TR8 that is a little more everyday useful. Never heard of autotempest. Have to see if that gives some results. A word of caution on CarMax. It’s a good place to dump a car with hidden problems.

Oh I expect so, a quick way to solve owning a troublesome car and in need of cash, especially when you know they won't find the problem (like, I doubt CarMax does an engine compression check, etc). That's why I want at least some remaining manufacturer's warranty, so that I can take it in and really get it checked out by Jaguar. Depending what they find, it gives the option of returning it, threatening to return it unless the price is dropped, or having Jaguar repair it under warranty.
I agree that it pays to look closely at whatever's up for sale. Already I'm seeing descriptions that don't match the pictures. On a related note, is there a way to tell from the VIN number whether the car is RWD or AWD? Some sites don't allow filtering for that, or sellers will say one or the other, and I wonder how they know themselves.

Not sure about the VIN but if you can see the hood the AWD cars have the vents further toward the front and wider apart - the RWD vents are closer together and near the windshield,
Huh? Am I reading this right? The 2017 Jaguar F-Type brochure states that the steering wheel-mounted manual shift levers are present only on certain exterior colored cars... Is that really true? It's on page 82 of this Jaguar brochure, here: https://www.auto-brochures.com/makes...-Type_2017.pdf
Edit: Here, it bugs me enough that I attached a pic... I wonder if I'm misunderstanding the chart, and that it's the color of the paddles themselves, not the color of the car?
Yep, every auto gearbox F-Type ever made has flappy paddles it's just the colour of the paddles that varies.
And if you don't like the colour on your car they are all interchangeable and easy to swap over although new ones can be a bit pricey.

Well the F Type was at the bottom of my top 3 list which consisted of a 911, Lotus Evora S or the F Type. I actually had a 911 in for a PPI when he reached out to me. I was just about to buy the Porsche and the inspection came back a bit under what I hoped so here I am. I love the F Type but still missing the nimbleness of the 6 cylinder sports cars.
I wound up partnering with a local dealer, who knew the spec I wanted. He kept an eye out and after about 3 months informed me of one coming in off lease. I must have passed on at least a half dozen ones before that. Patience won out.
I used cars.com. Set up an alert so it sent me new cars as soon as they were listed. Then watch and wait. Trick is to know a) what specifically you really need and what is a nice to have. B) price you are willing to pay (realistic...) and c) be ready to pounce for the right one and walk away from the wrong. It took me about 6-9 months (very picky) and that was before the covid disruptions. I bought across the country and had it shipped. Opens up a lot more options

If you read my Intro thread, my list consists of two Audis, a Porsche Cayman, a BMW M2 Comp, an F-Type, and even the Alfa "Quad". The only alternate to the F-type at present is the M2. To be honest, I thought it would be easy to find an F-Type S, but not wanting white or black really kicks the search results in the nuts, lol.
It's finally sinking in that before I can look for what I want, I have to decide what I want, hah. I've slammed back and forth between S, to the R, and even took a peak at the SVR. Thing is, I have something parked in the garage right now that's faster than even an SVR (see intro link above), and that's one reason I'm selling it. My current car is extremely frustrating because of its abilities, and constantly being stuck in heavy traffic. The analogy is that it's like owning a thoroughbred race horse and only being allowed to walk it. Anyway, between that and it being a stick shift, it's helped make the decision to sell it and get something more suitable for my current needs. If I got an R or SVR, I suspect I'd experience much of that same frustration. The cost of an F-Type and its insurance are at war with my emotions, choosing between the "light" S or the heavyweight R.
Back on topic, the saved searches are beginning to throw new cars at me, now I just have to decide which to get!

If you're like me, you'll find the F-Type is a great car to pootle about in (frustration free!), it's just a nice-place in which to sit! But when the red mist descends ....

It is not lost on me that having 4WD would be extremely handy in destroying most 2WD overhyped "sports cars" at the stop light grand prix. Also, the pure ridiculousness of having a loud 550-hp 4WD anything in the garage is entertaining in its own right.
Used LemonSquad to inspect it in Texas and had it shipped out to California.
Had 4 prior owners (im 5th), but talking with the LemonSquad, it was a steal. 60% of the car is paint protected, not a damn scratch, low miles, brakes not worn nearly at all. Only thing was a small scratch on the driver seat which I am getting fixed. Also had all its service docs which also showed it had the Coolant pipes replaced with updated spec (solid piece not 2-piece). Highly recommend LemonSquad.

Pedantically, it's AWD, not 4WD, and is mostly biased towards RWD unless conditions deem it necessary to adjust the power split.
